Apple Renews 'Widow's Bay' for Season 2 Ahead of Finale

Apple TV is heading back to the cursed island. The streaming service announced today that "Widow's Bay," the genre-bending horror-comedy starring Matthew Rhys, has been renewed for a second season. The renewal arrives just days before the season one finale premieres on June 17.



The series, which Apple first teased with a creepy trailer in April and launched on April 29, quickly earned a Certified Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes and praise as "the year's best new show" and "an absolute gem."


In "Widow's Bay," Rhys plays Mayor Tom Loftis, a well-meaning but ineffectual leader trying to revive a struggling New England island community by turning it into a tourist destination. The locals believe the island is cursed, but when tourists finally begin arriving, the old stories start coming true. The show blends genuine horror with character-driven comedy.

Alongside Rhys, the cast includes Kate O'Flynn, Stephen Root, Kingston Rumi Southwick, Kevin Carroll, and Dale Dickey, with K Callan and Emmy winner Jeff Hiller in supporting roles.

The series was created, showrun, and executive produced by Katie Dippold, with Hiro Murai directing and executive producing. Apple also announced a new multiyear overall deal with Dippold. Murai directed five of the first season's episodes, while Ti West, Sam Donovan, and Andrew DeYoung helmed the others. Rhys also serves as an executive producer on the series.

"From the moment audiences arrived in Widow's Bay, they've been hooked on every eerie mystery, unexpected laugh, and cursed secret that Katie, Hiro, Matthew and the entire team have created," said Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV. "We can't wait to return for another season."


"Season two is about how everything is great on the island and there's nothing to worry about," Dippold added.

Season one's finale streams Wednesday, June 17 on Apple TV. No release date has been set for the second season.
