Floating Amidst Rainbows and Angels

Playees has introduced Balloon Heaven, their ethereal balloon flying game for iOS. The object of the game is to carefully inflate a colored balloon to its full size and then guide it through the matching color ring in the sky. Gameplay ramps up slowly, preparing the player for higher levels where the tempo, number of balloons, evil clouds, and devil balloons all add difficulty. The game is played in Balloon Heaven, amidst sunbeams, angels, rainbows, and floating balloons.

Balloon Heaven is a competitive game with points, ranks, levels of play, and a game timer slowly running out. But where many games employ these elements in the interest of destruction, battle, and death, this game deals only in beautiful, colored balloons gently rising into the sky. Only the balloons themselves are rich, deep colors. Everything else is rendered in soothing pastel shades and duotone patterns. Players are graded on their performance after each round, but even if he scores zero, the lowest grade possible is a "D". To ensure a fully enjoyable experience, the player may only unlock the first level of the game after successfully completing a patient, step-by-step, interactive tutorial.

Played in landscape mode, the first level opens with a gracious 180 degree duotone sunburst in the background, a circular gradient sun moving from left to right, and billowy white clouds filling the screen. In the lower right, a winged angel watches seated atop a harp and horn adorned with hearts. To the extreme right is the rainbow meter which measures the player's progress. In the lower left is the blue, opalescent button that starts the flow of air into a balloon. The balloon continues inflating until the player removes his finger from the button. Too little air a runt balloon, too much and it pops. Just the right amount produces a crown balloon, fully realized and ready to score points floating heavenward.

Of course some problems do arise, eventually. Once inflated, it may reveal itself as a black devil balloon, prepared to create havoc if not neutralized by a double tap. Dark evil clouds may obscure the colored rings each balloon is destined to reach, and also must be removed by the player or higher intervention of an angel balloon. As gameplay continues balloons inflate faster, there are more different colors to be guided to their corresponding color rings, and dark forces increasingly intrude. Creative music and sound effects add a convincing dimension. And unlike some games in the App Store, this one loses none of its resolution when scaled up in 2x, full-screen mode on the iPad.
