Sony Accidentally Confirms Its Supplying Image Sensors for the iPhone 5?

Sony CEO Sir Howard Stringer may have just let it slip that Sony is providing image sensors for the iPhone 5.

According to 9to5Mac, Stringer told Walt Mossberg that their camera image sensor facility in Sendai was affected by the tsunami and so getting image sensors to Apple will be delayed. This may not sound like much except that Sony does not supply image sensors for Apple as far as we know.

Stinger said something to the effect of: "Our best senor technology is built in one of the (tsunami) affected factories. Those go to Apple for their iPhones…or iPads. Isn’t that something? They buy our best sensors from us?"

Interestingly, The Street previously reported that Apple has picked Sony's 8-megapixel camera chip for the 2011 iPhone.
