Apple has revealed that its working on a traffic service for iOS that will launch in the next few years. The information comes via its Q&A on Location Data posted earlier today.

Apple is now collecting anonymous traffic data to build a crowd-sourced traffic database with the goal of providing iPhone users an improved traffic service in the next couple of years.

Apple has long been rumored to be working on its open Maps solution for iOS. In March, Apple posted looking for an iOS Maps Application Developer to help it 'radically improve' maps and location services on its iDevices. Last December four job listings were found for software engineers experienced in developing navigation software. Apple also acquired PlaceBase and Poly9. Both companies specialized in mapping services.

Some believe that Apple plans to introduce its own Maps application to reduce the iPhone's dependance on Google.
