Apple's Cloud Service Will Transform Digital Music

Apple's upcoming cloud streaming service will transform how we interact with digital music putting an end to the days of downloading and transferring files between devices, according to Bloomberg.

Armed with licenses from the music labels and publishers, Apple will be able to scan customers' digital music libraries in iTunes and quickly mirror their collections on its own servers, say three people briefed on the talks. If the sound quality of a particular song on a user's hard drive isn't good enough, Apple will be able to replace it with a higher-quality version. Users of the service will then be able to stream, whenever they want, their songs and albums directly to PCs, iPhones, iPads, and perhaps one day even cars.

It's believed that Apple has paid dearly for its cloud streaming licenses and thus it's unlikely that the service will be free. It's suggested that Apple could include cloud streaming in its $99/yr MobileMe service.

business will never understand nor dictate the way we listen and interact with music. every generation rebels against the mainstream. artists and their followers have a long and deep rooted history of making music and the scene their own. bottom line, you cant cage freedom and expression. the image above looks like a damned prison, how ironic!

Hopefully its not limited to music you bought from them like the other services. I have a bunch of ripped cds from high school till now almost 600GB of music hope it can handle that. LaLa music couldnt handle it so will see. Hopefully it is on mobileme coz that would make me not cancel mine, coz its not worth its money now i think. with cloud music for same price definitely.

If iTunes ability to bring in tags and album art is any clue, how well it detects and mirrors music will depend on how closely your library's track names and tags match those in the iTunes catalog. I hope, but don't expect, that there algorithm has improved and can perform fuzzier matches.
