The new, cheaper iPod Touch (that is available in white/black), is identical to last year's iPod touch model. This means that redsn0w can be used to jailbreak these models including the White one as they are the same and use the same IPSW. However, these newer iPods ship with iOS 5 and that is currently a tethered jailbreak.
It seems that the only difference between last year's model is a new white color and a new price point.
