You're using an iPhone 4 .. this is for 4S only .. use Redsn0w to jailbreak iPhone 4 on 5.0.1

Having a hard time jailbreaking. For some reason Absinthe says it can't load it all the way in the app and refers me to do the VPN setting. I turn it on and nothing happens in the process. Any help?

Doesnt work for me. The app crashes on my mac as soon as I plug in the iphone4s. Not sure why or what to do. Also tried on a windows pc and the jailbreak button never goes active for me to press it.

Just want to tell you that when I tried to jailbreak my iPhone 4s on 5.0.1 with Absinthe it failed all the time like for some others. But the solution to my problem was to update to firmware 5.0.1 (iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A406_Restore.ipsw) first. I was on 5.0.1 but on a earlier release (iPhone4,1_5.0.1_9A405_Restore.ipsw) which apperantly was NOT compatible with Absinthe.
AoS_HJ - January 26, 2012 at 1:22am
Just wanted to thank you for this info. I've been trying for about 2 hours thinking I was doing something obvious wrong but I guess I've just got the wrong firmware :-( Updating now :-)
Philip - January 24, 2012 at 9:52am
First of all, I know this entry shouldn't be here. But I don't know where else to turn. I would love to update my iPhone 3gs to 5.0.1. But I don't know how since my power button is busted and I can't put the phone in DFU. I have googled about putting the phone in DFU without the use of buttons, but I'm afraid it might brick my phone :-( Any help would be much appreciated!!! Has anyone been through this problem?

My iPhone 4S doesn't get recognised by absinthe. what's the problem?
Rahhb - January 21, 2012 at 10:23pm
Anyone with white screen issues after hitting Absinthe, try closing all apps including Absinthe, then turn VPN on in settings. It will likely give you an error, that's ok. Then hit Absinthe again and it should work.
dmont - January 21, 2012 at 8:10pm
Jailbreak worked great, but safari, you tube and the app store crashes. Hopefully the bugs will get worked out. Thanks for the JB!!!!

Hey I have a question. My iphone 4s settings don´t appear the way showed in this tutorial.. To find vpn switch I must go to Settings / General / Network/ VPN not connected/ VPN switch on and off. (The tutorial VPN settings show VPN switch right after opening settings) When i switch VPN on it asks me for a configuration (Description, server, accounts, etc.) I havent started the jailbreak process but will I have a problem jailbreaking my iphone 4s if VPN is not configured?
Christina - January 21, 2012 at 5:58pm
i have tried to unlock 10 times and every time its getting stuck about 1/8 of the way through and says "beginning jailbreak, this may take a while". I have treied rebooting my phone back to factory settings and turning my computer on and off. and it still sits in the same spot. i let it run all night and no progress. please help.
popnick - January 21, 2012 at 7:03pm
I'm having the same problem! I'm scouring the internet looking for somebody with an explanation. This is definitely happening to some people out there. We're not the only ones.
Mats - January 21, 2012 at 7:15pm
The instructions on this link solved my problem that was the same as yours: Try it.
Fabian - January 22, 2012 at 8:02am
That's my Problem, too... iuse the Win Version of Absinthe... -.-
popnick - January 22, 2012 at 3:49pm
After visiting that link above, it became clear to me that I would have to restore my phone to its factory state to have a chance at a successful jailbreak. Here is a guaranteed no-fail method: 1. Backup your phone to your COMPUTER (not iCloud). You can restore your content and settings after jailbreaking and your phone will be identical to how it was, plus the jailbreak, because restoring your phone from a computer backup does not overwrite the firmware. 2. Restore your iPhone (erase all content in settings in the settings/general menu. 3. Once restored it will guide you through the new phone setup. It will ask if you want to restore from an iCloud or computer backup - or if you want to setup a new phone. Pick "setup new phone." 4. Once the phone is functioning like new again and you're at the home screen, go ahead and jailbreak according to the instructions (remember: don't set a passcode!). Everything should go relatively quickly and it should not hang at "beginning jailbreak, this may take a while," because the Absinthe makes a copy of the content on your phone in the process of jail breaking and because the phone is new again, this will whiz by. 5. Finish the jailbreak according to the iClarified's instructions (hit the absinthe button, phone reboots, cydia should be on your screen now). 6. Open cydia, let it load the sources and packages. It may not load all sources right away. Don't panic. It took cydia about 45 minutes to function as I remembered it. DO NOT start installing apps until you restore your content. 7. Now, Attach your phone to iTunes. It will think the phone is new, but will ask if you want to restore from a recent backup of your old phone. Choose the one you just made. Let the phone restore - it might take 15 minutes and your phone will be inaccessible. 8. Once restored, everything should be as you left it - contacts, mail, calendars, texts. Your media and apps will be downloading in the background. Don't worry, Angry Birds will remember your high score. 9. As your content slowly trickles back into your device, find the Cydia app, which should be workiIng ok by now (if not, keep hitting "refresh" in the changes tab). It WILL eventually work so don't worry. Their servers are having a hard time keeping up with the recent influx of jailbreakers, I imagine. Start downloading jailbroken apps (I recommend starting with sbsettings and intelliscreenx) and enjoy! REMEMBER: Immediately backup your SHSH blobs using tiny umbrella! I honestly don't even know exactly what that means, but it basically allows you to restore your phone back to a certain version of firmware if you need to (Apple doesn't allow downgrades). I've done this method on 3 phones now and I think it's the cleanest and most hassle free way to do it. Total time it takes is around 45 minutes. For those of you having Safari crashes - I found that the app Safari Download Manager was causing mine. Pay attention to what you download and if things start screwing up, remove them one by one in reverse til the problem goes away.
Mats - January 21, 2012 at 5:38pm
Fails for me. Absinthe app starts with "Beginning jailbreak, this may take a while... Then nothing happends and it craches after 15 minutes. log file says something about device not ready... My iPhone 4S is bought unlooked from Apple. Firmware 5.01 Anyone succeded with such a device?

JudgeMe - January 21, 2012 at 7:36am
Jailbreak was a success but safari crashes promptly after that. Anyone else have the same problem?
toesdead - January 21, 2012 at 3:57pm
Safari crashes for me too!
dmont - January 21, 2012 at 8:07pm
my safari, the app store, and you tube crashes. everything else works. Thanks, maby the bubs will get worked out...
toesdead - January 22, 2012 at 5:40am
Safari Download Manager was causing Safari to crash. Removed it and now Safari is working. YouTube and App Store work for me.
Paul - January 21, 2012 at 5:41am
Worked perfectly!! The only issue I had was the apps in cydia not populating on first start. But solved that easily. Well done!
CaliforniaBabylon - January 21, 2012 at 4:35am
Everything went fine (iPhone 4S) except Cydia appears to not have the sources necessary for common tweaks like SBSettings. Does anyone else have this issue going on?
CaliforniaBabylon - January 21, 2012 at 5:16am
Nevermind, I figured it out. If anyone else has this issue hit refresh on the changes tab in Cydia. That should do it. Everything seems to be working perfectly now.
Max - January 21, 2012 at 4:11am
didnt worked on osx 10.5.6, i get an error when lauching. is it a common issue? ... i will try on different mac with later osx just to be sure ...
Tmmy - January 21, 2012 at 3:05am
I also recommend turning WiFi off before starting the process in case you receive some iMessages from your friend while the jailbreak process is in action as they wont be there once it's complete.
ichuy - January 21, 2012 at 12:12am
IMPORTANT - If you have the free music app save your music first in a folder then do the jailbreak because it will erase all your music from it.
fodi - January 20, 2012 at 11:07pm
it worked successfully. no errors no losses and no VPN thing. i just had to disable the passcode and PIN code..pls. note that... thanks dream team... iClarified u r the best...

Danix - January 20, 2012 at 10:53pm
I'm using a VMWare version of the MacOs and everything goes well until the reboot. Absinthe program never detects that my phone has bee reboted :( I wish there were a "Next" button. P.S. No one is actually answering questions here I know it makes no sense for me to ask here it's just so other people know they are not alone :)
Dan - January 21, 2012 at 12:54am
I actually got over that step and succesfully JB with a VMWare image. To get over the "waiting to reboot step" immediately after the restore step I disconnected the phone cable and connected the cable again (several times - 2,3 I think) and the process took over until JB completed ;) Many thanks "Dream team"! Ppl let' donate for their awesome effort!
ichuy - January 20, 2012 at 9:51pm

Absinthe is crashing every time I try to launch it on my Mac. I've restarted my Mac and I'm having no luck. The application won't launch on my Mac. There is a crash error... I've downloaded the zip file about 3 times on different browsers with no difference. Any recommendations???
Dudleydogg - January 20, 2012 at 10:03pm
Create a New User with your mac then Logout and login to the Blank clean new user account. Then try to run. if that does not work keep turning off stuff

I have the same problem! Please advice! VPN connection not possible, a configuration error occurred....
DGUNZ - January 21, 2012 at 4:39am
When the program says to press the icon on your iPhone, don't, just go to gen, setting, network and turn on vpn, then wait a minute or so, your iPhone should reboot, then cydia will appear
quriat - January 20, 2012 at 7:50pm
it works great for me on iphone 4s and ipad 2 thank you guys so much
Boywonda - January 20, 2012 at 7:48pm
JUST Jailbreak'd and it took no longer than 3mins for me using iPhone 4S When it comes to the turning on VPN part, simply just turn it will load for awhile and then say error. I tried it a 2nd time and then went to press the absinthe then rebooted like said and powered back on with Cydia installed. Thank you Dream Team....My donation will follow shortly as soon as i set-up my paypal
