LG has announced a new 5-inch 1920x1080 smartphone display with an impressive 440ppi pixel density, reports Mashable.

The display is based on AH-IPS (Advanced High Performance In-Plane Switching) technology, which - claims LG - offers high color fidelity, wide viewing angles, stable image and rapid response speed when touched.

LG plans to showcase the new display at SID 2012 Display Week in Boston which starts June 4 and release it during the second half of this year. In comparison the iPhone 4S features a pixel density of 326ppi and a resolution of 960x640.

Recent rumors have Apple increasing the size of their display to 1136x640 but keeping the same pixel density.
