Brian White, an analyst at Tokepa, has been traveling around Taipei to speak with component suppliers about the iPad mini.
White believes the iPad mini could outshine its big brother.
"Apple did not skimp on the aesthetics of the much anticipated 'iPad Mini,'" White says. "In fact, we believe the 'iPad Mini' could outshine the new iPad in terms of how the device feels in a consumer's hands."
AllThingsD also backs up this report saying they've heard promising things about the smaller tablet's design which sources say is demanding to manufacture.
"The new 'iPad Mini' is more challenging to produce than prior iPad iterations," White says. "We believe supply will initially be constrained."
A recent report from the WSJ said that Apple has ordered 10 million iPad minis to be manufactured in the fourth quarter.
BallmrHead: Are you serious or joking? A 5" screen would be pretty pointless, considering that's only 1" more than the iPhone 5. A screen of 7" is about right on in terms of mean between the full sized iPad screen and the iPhone/iPod Touch screens. Anything much less is defeating the point of a "mini", which, in my mind, is to preserve the portability factor of a phone/small tablet, yet have a screen that makes employing it for reading magazines and doing other photo/video/audio editing etc with less difficulty and eye strain. Have you ever tried reading a magazine from the newsstand or an eBook on an iPhone for an extended period of time? It's not a comfortable or practical physical platform for such things. Reading a magazine I'm tapping and pinching and spreading to read portions of a single page. Now, I'm assuming the supply constraint comment was sarcasm, of course they're going to limit supply at first to drive up demand. Then, just in time for Christmas, they will flood the market with the product just in timeâ and the limited supply (whether circumstantial or purposed) will make everybody frenzied to get one for the holidays. Next; I can bet to predict why this iPad incarnation will not affect a release in X months. To meet the price point they need to be competitive and not simply match the other iPads (and rememberâ iPhones without contracts are $600(?) or so, as are the full iPads. How can you possibly reduce costs to just above that of an iPod Touch? The answer is sacrifice. It is likely going to lack a retina display, possibly be without cellular capability, the memory will be on the low end for sure (8GB on the entry model); maybe a lower res camera or a lesser processor (A5 probably vs. A6). It will be what an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 is to the iPhone 5. This is why when they release another "full size" iPad in the next months, it will not be threatened by the "mini", because it will have all the latest, greatest parts: retina, highest end processorâ no similar power sacrifices will be needed to halve the price. That is my prediction of what we'll see. It seems the only logical possibility to create this device at a substantial price cut; far below their phones and iPads, and just barely over an iPod Touchâ with double the screen size. Guess we'll see if this is true or not soon enough. You won't see the iPad mini with the same specs as an iPad 3; bet on that!
what the f... I want ipad 5" size not 7"! apple is going to burried themself with this toys and mac dead already!! and guess who's going to be lucky? Windows 8 is the best beast on the planet!!!
Where's the logic in this..why would you release another ipad 7 months prior to the release of the new ipad???...a smaller screen.. Really??....ok if u release this one at a cheaper price.. Lets say 300 or 350...wouldnt u just b killing ur own product by people not wanting to buy the new ipad and opt for the mini? Or is all this just bullshit and this really is what the ipad 4 or the even newer ipad which will release next year as it should be...apple stop wit the shitty upgrades and put a 10 megapixel camera on the ipad 1080p on both sides...make it weigh less(come on, u have a whole year) ,include a free keyboard already(15$ on ebay) stop jipping people.
Suppose the iPad mini has the screen resolution of 1440*900 and the graphic component of the new iPhone5, the Apple maps will outshine others with its capability of caching a large area for offline use. This might be the vindication for Apple for the initial goof-up.
