BlackBerry CEO Says iPhone is Dated

BlackBerry CEO Says iPhone is Dated

Posted March 18, 2013 at 1:43pm by iClarified
In an interview with The Australian Financial Review, BlackBerry CEO Thorsten Heins says the iPhone is now out-of-date.

According to the CEO, the latest wave of smartphones including the Galaxy S 4, have eliminated the hold Apple had on the smartphone market.

Apple did a fantastic job in bringing touch devices to market ... They did a fantastic job with the user interface, they are a design icon. There is a reason why they were so successful, and we actually have to admit this and respect that,” Mr Heins said.

“History repeats itself again I guess ... the rate of innovation is so high in our industry that if you don’t innovate at that speed you can be replaced pretty quickly. The user interface on the iPhone, with all due respect for what this invention was all about is now five years old.”

Apple's iOS interface has remained fundamentally unchanged since the original iPhone. Do you think it's time for a change? Is the company really falling behind other manufacturers? Let us know what you think in the comments.

Never always, blackberry OS can't beat ios device for at least 10 years. From a single full touch model blackberry can't overtake the market share.bcz the people using android is the copying of IOS..

Yeah, we are not sure Apple's iPhone is out-of-date or not in future... Samsung's S4 is not bad, because of hard work and so many release of models, so some model will be famous, for me Samsung is just ok only...

Blackberry hasn't felt the pulse of the current market for a LONG time. While Apple's ingenuity is floundering without Steve Jobs, it's still lightyears ahead of BB! But then, it's always easy to kick the big dog when you're at the bottom of the heap.

AGREED......! I am an old user since apple launched iPhone 3g and u know what I'm still the same because the company which i admire/like doesn't let me to. In the beginning i was a very happy user of iPhone , not only happy i was overwhelmed with the revolutionary product which changed the definition of a phone. But that's it no accessibility to bluetooth , no customization nothing. If apple was a cold drink maker company then the customers would only have the accessibility thru the straw and one need to jailbreak the cold-drink to drink it from the bottle. Steve jobs. U have taken away all the jobs.

Well, he reminfs me Steve Ballmer from Microsoft... always mocking Apple. We all know the story. RIM will be outdated way before Apple. Who takes the bet ? ;-) Anyway...

Look who is Talking about Competition "Blackberry" ? Have you Ever Been in Competition against iPhone or any other Manufactures or Firm. I don't see them in competition long long away till Horizon......as far as User Interface is concerned iOS is Way Better the RIM's Monochromatic Black and White Blackberry OS.........

I started with the iPhone 1st gen. Today I am using iPhones since 5 years, now iPhone 5, but I get more and more bored by the iOS. It's very good, but in general the same since 5 years. And the iPhone look does not change that much aswell, especially the front. Android is not a choice, but Nokia and HTC have some nice (not that perfect as an iPhone) and interesting Windows Phone 8 mobile phones. It's time to try out something new.

Hi, I had same problem, Im currently trying Nokia Lumia 920. And I can say after 5 days. No, stop! That's a crap. :( really it is. Hardware is good, but if there is something boring on iPhone, trust me, I have that feeling after 5 days with Windows Phone. :-( ... I'm going to wait for new iPhone 5s whatever, and I'm going to buy it. Since this is not going work. I'm missing good apps there, as well as there are some limitations. Like there is no integration with Youtube. :-( Not at all, there is no such an user experience, and lack of functionality. But it has one advantage, it is very stupid system. Actually I do not understand what is taking 6GB of 32GB Memory of that phone. Hopefully there is not 1 GB Page file and 1GB Hibberfile :D :D :D

What is BlackBerry? Lol They are at the brink of extinction thanks to the iPhone and other devices. The iOS is just fine, yes it needs features yes it needs tweaks, but as a whole it's way better than the rest as far as simplicity and use. Don't over do things just to redo things...

iOS does needs an overhaul. Changes that make it seem practically new will definitely help rise to that popularity again. Maybe even convince some to change to iOS again. I'm still dubious when it comes to iOS being called 'outdated'. Not too long ago, blackberry was itself a sinking ship. It has barely scraped the surface with the z10, it needs to do a lot more (just a little perspective, that's all I'm saying). Yes, new and powerful phones are being launched almost every month but to think that apple won't take that fact into account is a bit harsh a judgement I think. Android is becoming powerful, at a good pace and WP is joining the league. But apple will surely think of something because it will definitely want to maintain that status of 'innovator'.

Controversial can make headlines, but it can either make it or break it. Blackberry should take a look at them first before criticizing other company. What have you done lately Blackberry? Where is your so call Blackberry 10?

Yes. 1000% iOS is old and outdated. When you haven't had any new ringtones or wallpapers or new icons in over 5 years , it gets pretty boring... When I go somewhere and hear a iPhone ring , I think it's mine... Cause we all have the same ringtones. Also, when u look at an iPhone 2G and compare the operating system to an iPhone 5, it's the same EXACT boring system...... No Widgets, No Gestures, No Notification light.... No NOTHING!!!!!!! I feel like I've been using the same phone for 5 years. At this point I am going to buy the New Galaxy S4 because I want the latest technology!!!

I totally agree. Its the same UI on faster hardware. The reason I bought the iPhone was because it was innovative and ground breaking. I still think the iPhone is an excellent piece of technology, but the UI and hardware is, and has always been behind the curve. I too will jump ship and buy the new S4.
