Hands-On With the Samsung GALAXY Gear Smartwatch [Video]

Posted September 4, 2013 at 6:42pm by
Check out this hands-on video from Engadget that demonstrates the features of the Samsung GALAXY Gear smartwatch.

We haven't been blown away by any smartwatch's performance, and that's much the case here. The Gear feels awfully sluggish, whether you're launching an app such as Evernote or Path, or swiping down from the home screen to activate the camera. Watch faces, which you can upload from the Gear's Android companion app, performed well, as did the Music card, which simply serves as a remote for any music app (native or third-party) currently active on a connected device.

Take a look at the video below or hit the link for Engadget's hands-on report.

They just wanted to beat Apple to their idea first. That's why it looks so ugly!

Ugly, first of all. Then it seems to be still in to too early stage of development. It is not yet reach some degree of perfection to buy! For me, I would say "No wasting time on it thus no wasting any buck on the device."

what year was this watch made, 2001? Looks like the original garmin watch in 2000. They might sell 100 this year.

yes I use it too but sometimes some Apps don't like it and won't work with it on so you have to turn it off with SBSettings but its a good tweak Apple can't tell that your device is jail broken.

Anyone els feel like Samsung threw this thing together really fast just to beat apple to the market? I Mean what company would release a product with such a poor battery life and slow UI?

That looks 10 years old, has a highly unpractical UI and really slow and unresponsive... I don't hate Samsung, because I've enjoyed products of hers in the past. I just highly dislike everything that has been released so far and is related to Android, because none of them ever felt like a finished product, but rather a constant beta!

After the whole 'cool' factor of wearing this evaporates, you're left with wearing a poor device strapped to your wrist.

Still Samsung wins because it is better to have a device strapped at distance than hold it constantly in your hands.

Samsung, it's all poor quality. My worst experience was the S4. It was a difficult phone, always hanging and the touch is poor with cheap plastic. In one drop the screen cracked. iPhone 5 rules, I am eagerly waiting for iPhone 5S. Samsung is no match when it comes to iPhone 5.

I thought that smart watch is a great idea, but no one has made it the right way yet. Samsung wasted a good chance to do something great. From the video it looks like a rushed low quality watch that I would have no interest buying. I hope apple will do it the right way

Does not knock me out of my shoes at this stage. Look for sure much better than other "Smart" watches I have seen on the market. We will see

Its pretty mediocre at best! Slow response and as they said in the video that physical button kills it for me..
