Fido iPhone Customers Screwed By Rogers

Rogers just announced pricing for existing iPhone customers looking to upgrade to the iPhone 3G S. Its a reasonable offer. Between $250 and $500 off the no contract price depending on the value of your account.

For Fido customers its a different story...

If I already have an iPhone 3G from Fido and wish to upgrade to the new iPhone 3G S, are there any special offers?

Yes. For a limited time, existing iPhone 3G customers can apply their FidoDollars towards the no-term cost of the iPhone 3G S without subscribing to a data add-on. In addition these customers will receive a $100 FidoDollars Bonus top up towards the purchase of the new iPhone 3G S. This offer is effective June 19 to July 31st, 2009.

So that's $500 dollars off for Rogers customers and $100 dollars + FidoDollars off for Fido customers.

What is going on here? Personally, I purchased the iPhone 3G on launch day in 2008. My monthly bill is between $160 - $200 dollars. That has totaled me about 100 FidoDollars. So as a Fido customer with a bill of $160/month I get $200 dollars off the iPhone price. A Rogers customer with a bill of $99/month gets $500 dollars off. How does that make any sense?

Perhaps Rogers doesn't want negative press like AT&T had to go through this past week but doesn't care about the recently rebranded budget Fido service. Canada is going to get three new potential iPhone carriers in the near future. I wonder if there will be any Rogers/Fido customers left?
