A prototype Apple device that changed hands outside the company has led to an unusually broad internal leak, exposing codenames tied to dozens of unreleased products, including future iPhones, Macs, and home devices. According to MacRumors, the source was an early internal build of iOS 26 discovered running on the hardware, offering a rare snapshot of Apple's development pipeline.
While Macworld previously shared details about upcoming iOS features pulled from this software, MacRumors has now clarified how the leak occurred. The prototype was running an internal build labeled iOS 19, with a version number that predates the first public developer beta of iOS 26 seeded earlier this year. After the device changed hands, the software was shared, allowing an anonymous source to examine the code and extract a large list of internal hardware identifiers.
Many of the leaked codenames align with prior reporting from Bloomberg's Mark Gurman and other analysts, while also filling in gaps around specific products. These include Apple's smart home hub, its first foldable iPhone, and multiple generations of Apple silicon-powered Macs.

The software also referenced several unidentified codenames, including N110, N209, N216, J349, J190, and J226. While their presence confirms active development, software references alone do not guarantee a product will ever ship, as Apple frequently cancels or delays hardware during the engineering process.
