Apple appears to be preparing long overdue updates for two of its smaller accessories. New references discovered in an internal build of iOS 26 point to a refreshed HomePod mini and a second-generation AirTag expected to arrive in 2026.
According to Macworld, the new HomePod mini carries the codename B252. Apple is reportedly replacing the aging S5 chip with the S10, the same processor used in the latest Apple Watch SE 3 and Series 11 models. The upgrade should deliver better wireless performance and faster responsiveness, though the code suggests this version won't support Apple Intelligence. Those features are expected to debut on the rumored smart home display powered by A-series silicon.
The leaked software also outlines what's in store for the next AirTag. Apple is working on enhanced Precision Finding, a smoother pairing process, and more detailed battery reporting. A new feature called "Improved Moving" appears designed to help track items more accurately while they're in motion. Additional improvements target better performance in crowded areas where today's AirTag can struggle.
These capabilities are all tied to iOS 26 and labeled internally as "2025AirTag", hinting the update may have originally been planned for release this year before slipping into 2026. Rumors of an upgraded tracker have circulated for some time, and this leak narrows the launch window to the first half of next year.
If you need a tracker now, the current AirTag is on sale for $17.97 (38% off). You can follow price changes using the iClarified Apple Accessory Price Tracker.
