Verizon has announced that it will roll out support for Voice Over LTE (VoLTE) in the coming weeks.

VoLTE, or Voice over LTE, is the latest emerging wireless technology that will change how you use your smartphone to make calls. In the coming weeks, Verizon Wireless customers can begin to see what Advanced Calling 1.0 -- HD Voice and Video Calling -- can mean to their wireless experience when tightly integrated with their 4G LTE smartphones.

The company notes that HD Voice and Video Calling work only when both people are in the Verizon 4G LTE coverage area and are using VoLTE-enabled smartphones from Verizon.

While Apple has yet to announce the feature, it's possible that it could launch VoLTE support with iOS 8 and the iPhone 6. Two new job postings on Apple's website suggest the company is working towards supporting the technology. Current iPhones do not support VoLTE, however chipsets in the iPhone 5s/5c/5 could support VoLTE if Apple were to release a software update to enable it.
