Google's Eric Schmidt on the iPhone 6: 'Samsung Had These Products a Year Ago' [Video]

Google Chairman Eric Schmidt suggested that Apple's new iPhone 6 smartphones are a copy of previous Samsung devices during an interview with Bloomberg.

Schmidt and former Senior Vice President Jonathan Rosenberg spoke about their book "How Google Works," the mobile industry and Google's competition with Apple on Bloomberg Television's "Market Makers" show with Stephanie Ruhle and Erik Schatzker.

-----
Bloomberg: How do you feel, in the last week when you drive by any Apple Store, San Francisco, L.A., New York, and there are people lined up around the block? So even though way more people carry Android phones, how does Apple have that desire factor?

Schmidt: Laughter. I'll tell you what I think. Samsung had these products a year ago.

Bloomberg: And nobody had a huge party. In the last month when Samsung came out with new products people weren't losing their mind camping out. What do you think about it?

Schmidt: I think Samsung had the products a year ago. That's what I think.
-----

Schmidt also discusses the competition between Apple and Google.

"I would say that this brutal competition between Apple and Google over Android and iOS has enormous benefits for consumers worldwide. If you look at the innovation on the Apple side and on the Google side, that competition which I think is the defining fight of the computer industry today it benefits globally at the billions of people level."

What he should have said is, "that we rushed out our idea of a big phone and Apple waited until they had participation from large retailer and others to make sure it actually does work with real work scenario." We love to sell gimmicky features so that young wannabe techy would succumb to ideas they are buying a tech driving smartphone. #Gaylaxative Pseudo Smartphones

Right.. Apple took their time making a big phone... Um that bends in a pocket... Maybe they should have release this phone a year from now and Maybe it wouldn't bend

He may as well have said "I think those grapes probably taste sour." "Yeah, we had them a year ago."

That, my friends, is how the leader of the competition responds! He said those words after his head has exploded from the question. Couldn't come up with a better answer.

When he says Samsung had it a year ago. Then what he's implying is that all smart phones are the same, regardless of application and OS, user interface.

There was an article that says Samsung blatantly copied Apple's IPhone 5 design in their Samsung Galaxy Alpha. And, it was found that they have also created a top secret 132 page document showing engineers how the Galaxy phones should copy the Iphone. But, Apple also does copy some software features from Android, But, just about all of those features aren't patented, so I guess it is ok. This just tells you how Samsung is worse. It is not about who comes out with what feature or products first, it is about quality. And that is where Apple delivers better than Samsung overall.

Translation: This is our main talking point, so no matter what you ask, I'll keep repeating that we introduced big phones back when no one wanted them

Understably, Apple, an American based company, will have more influence on the adoption of their products in America. While Smasung being a Korean company, does not simply have that level of influence. However, Samsung, together with Google tries to make its technology work on a global level. While Apple, simply restricts their technology to their product the iPhone and only make it work with the USA and very few rich and industrialized countries. When do you think India is going to have Apple Pay? Maybe never! Google has created Android to unify the OS that handset makers like HTC LG Samsung and Motorola uses. Apple restrict their OS only to their product and locks it out that people will have to jailbreak to modify it to their wanting. And Apple steals all these fancy innovations from the jailbreak community and call it their own.

Yeah man. And if you think Apple can take a majority of the profit share simply by doing that, then you deserve to be a fan of android and samsung.

– Mr. Schmidt, what's your full name? – I think Samsung had the products a year ago. – What date is it, Mr. Schmidt? – I think Samsung had the products a year ago. – Mr. Schmidt, are you ok? – I think Samsung had the products a year ago.

So he's just saying Samsung did it first, not that they do it better. Non-issue.

Yes, but it takes Apple to change the industry. What's the use of having features that no one in the industry uses? This is a stupid argument, "we had it first". What about, "we changed the industry to use the features that you had first?"
