Rumor Has Apple Discontinuing the iPad Mini

A questionable rumor from Taiwan's Economic Daily News surfaced today which claims Apple could discontinue the iPad mini to focus on the iPad Pro.

GforGames translates the report:

This decision (says the source) might also have something to do with the dwindling sales figures of the iPad mini series. With the latest model bringing almost no improvements over the iPad mini 2, the situation could get even hairier next year and Apple could switch gears and focus on the iPad Pro instead – which also shapes up to be a strong Microsoft Surface Pro 3 rival.

Normally, this report would carry little weight; however, customers were surprised when Apple released a major update to its iPad Air but left the iPad mini untouched save for a new Touch ID button. That button is a $100 premium over it's predecessor. Perhaps Apple plans to stop putting development resources into the iPad mini, similar to the current situation with the iPod touch.

As you may know, Apple is said to be working on a new larger iPad Pro. Recent reports suggest it will have a 12.2-inch display, be 7mm thick, and feature top and bottom stereo speakers.

Do you think Apple should continue to focus on the iPad mini, especially considering the launch of new larger iPhones? Share your thoughts in the comments...
