Square Announces It Will Support Apple Pay

Square founder Jack Dorsey has announced that the company will support Apple Pay next year, reports CNN.

As it stands now, Square's hardware allows businesses to accept credit card payments via iPads and iPhones, with customers swiping their cards through a tiny square device. But the technology is not currently equipped to accept Apple Pay. The hardware will have to be reworked to be compatible with the Apple Pay system, allowing for potentially seamless transactions from one mobile device to another.

While Apple Pay and Square could be seen as competitors, Dorsey says he doesn't see it that way.

"We're not building a credit card. We're not building a payment device. We're building a [cash] register, and this register accepts all these forms of payments," Dorsey told CNN in an interview.
