Apple Testing iCloud Voicemail Service That Uses Siri to Answer Calls and Transcribe Messages

Posted August 3, 2015 at 3:13pm by iClarified
Apple is testing a new Siri based voicemail service that would replace your traditional voicemail service, reports Business Insider.

Apple employees are testing a voicemail service that uses Siri to answer your calls and transcribe voicemail messages. Apple's iCloud service will then send you the text of the transcribed voicemail — meaning you will never need to listen to your voicemails again, sources tell Business Insider. The new service is being prepared for launch in 2016, we hear.

The way it works is quite simple. If you have the 'iCloud Voicemail' service enabled and miss a call, Siri will answer instead of the standard voicemail service. It will be able to relay information about where you are and why you can't come to the phone, to select people. It will also transcribe any incoming messages so you can read them quickly.

iCloud Voicemail is expected to launch in 2016, perhaps alongside iOS 10. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.

Siri still has issues transcribing my regular request although it's gotten better over the years, not sure how I'd feel if I got an ultra important voicemail that was transcribed wrong.

That's pretty awesome actually. iOS 9 is a bit of a disappointment, so hopefully iOS 10 brings us all those new features.

What if proactive (updated Siri) got this feature, plus I find iOS 9 a win.

That would be cool. Compared to other iOS releases, iOS 9 is weak in features. News has always been pointless, notes isn't all that new and the "app switcher" is a mistake compared to multitasking. Pro active is decent, but I don't think I will ever find it useful, maps is the only worthy new feature. Everyone to their own opinion though.

All though still in beta, the final release may change my mind as iOS 9 is supposed to be a bug fixer and make everything nice.
