Apple to Shut Down HopStop Following Launch of Transit Directions in iOS 9

Apple has announced that it will shut down HopStop following the launch of Apple Maps transit directions in iOS 9. The company acquired the app back in 2013.

The website for HopStop now displays a message that reads:

HopStop will no longer be available starting October 2015

Here's how Apple describes its new transit feature in iOS 9.

Maps now features Transit view, bringing you public transit information with routes and directions. Transit is customized for each city, where available — so you’ll easily recognize signs and be able to pinpoint the nearest subway station entrance or bus stop. You can even ask Siri for transit directions. And since Maps is also an OS X app, you can plan a trip on your Mac and follow the route on your iPhone or Apple Watch when you’re on the go.

At launch transit directions will only be available for: Baltimore, MD; Chicago, IL; China; London, England; Mexico City, Mexico; New York City, NY; Philadelphia, PA; San Francisco, CA; Toronto, Canada; and Washington, DC.

iOS 9 launches on September 16th. Please follow iClarified on Twitter, Facebook, or RSS for updates.
