Waterproof Test: Apple iPhone 6s vs Samsung Galaxy S7 [Video]

Posted March 4, 2016 at 10:45pm by iClarified
Samsung's new Galaxy S7 smartphone is IP68 waterproof providing submersion protection for up to 30 minutes in water up to 1.5 meters deep.

The company says it worked to completely seal off the inside components while keeping micro USB ports, earphone jacks open, so you don't have to fiddle with extra caps or covers.

Take a look at this video from EverythingApplePro that demonstrates how the S7 performs against the iPhone 6s when under water.

I was convinced of this lads credentials once he said that he thought an ios update had increased the waterproof-ness of this iphone 6 as opposed to one used in a previous test?? WTF...

Now it's time for Samsung to do a "2 months proof" phone. They might resist water, but they are cheap and crappy.

Who says Samsung is cheaper than iPhone? If you will buy a 64GB phone. Apple cost $850 while Samsung is $800. Come on! $50 difference? You can afford to shell out $800 for a temporary new phone that will be old and clunky after a year? I will not buy a phone that doesn't last. Next year you will be replacing your new S7 because the OS updates doesn't arrive fast and it will be released first on the next new phone while the iPhone will get the iOS update immediateley. A new OS on your phone feels like you got a new phone. I will still use my iPhone 6plus until the phone is not supported by the iOS update.

What do you expect from a phone from these guys always released months after the iPhone? How fair is that also?

I don't care on these waterproof tests on phones. I have used my iPhones (from 3G, 5, 6) at a daily basis for 7 years without getting submerged in water or getting wet. How could you do that in an expensive tech? If you got a rolex on your birthday and you know you it's expensive and can't afford another one, can you have it scratched? For sure you will take care of it with your life because you can't get another one. Same with iPhones and all expensive phones, if you are careless with it, it will cost you your fortune! The reason why I am happy with my iPhone is the security, apps and contents which I am doubtful with Android.

It is stupid to try to compete with a device that is rated Ip66 vs a nonqualified, and a well after 5 min the speakers stop working in the Galaxy 7s first, before the iPhone 6s

What is so difficult for Apple to add water repellant to the components. There are a number of coatings that can be applied to resist water. Apple isn't even trying to compete with Samsung. Maybe they don't want people to deliberately dip iPhones in liquid. I really don't get Apple at all. All that money and they keep pinching pennies.

iFixits teardown of the iPhone 6s shows how iPhone 6s holds up enough to take which some say it's an improvement. Apple is just saving the best for last for the next iPhine. Maybe apple is slowly giving out one great feature one iPhone after another in order to make more variety for iPhones. That's my best guess to why you may see what you think goes on. The money Apple is earning I guess is that they're trying to put so much towards acquisitions since there has been more and more year after another.

the revolutionary "irepel" is coming, it's not just an ordinary waterproof, but a water repellent. the next big innovation since apple pay & 3d touch :).

There is actually absolutely no point of these tests... The problem of Samsung is not the hardware, it is their stupid software... So yeah - iPhone - A lot better..

gamerscul9870 - March 4, 2016 at 11:57pm
Even if the 6s isn't waterproof like most tests proved, there's always liquipel to do that.

The point is that Samsung is waterproofing FOR FREE when you buy the phone. How does no one understand this?
gamerscul9870
gamerscul9870 - March 5, 2016 at 12:24am
1. it's going to take more than just that alone to cash in on this phone. 2. Liquipel doesn't cost much, but it's a solution for other companies that haven't yet made their phones waterproof yet. 3. All I said was what I just mentioned here. Big deal.

Who cares. The last thing anyone cares about is how waterproof their freakin phone is. I know I could give a rats ass. If you want something water proof get a GoPro.

I don't have a phone case on mine because I hate them. iPhone was not meant to be covered. Also, I don't have insurance either because it's less of a hassle to just go pay the money at the store to have it fixed. Paying a little extra to have it fixed and back to me in a half an hour in my opinion is far better than sending it out and having to wait. As well as not even a guarantee that it's going to be your phone, or just any random cleaned out refurbished phone like they all too often like to do to people.

Considering iPhone isn't waterproof and lasted a while i'm more impressed with the iPhone.
