Apple is reportedly planning a big update to its Mac lineup for October of this year, reports Bloomberg.

The refresh is said to include new versions of the iMac, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, and a 5K standalone monitor.

While the new iPad features aren’t expected until next year, Apple is planning to release some of the new Mac products as soon as October, according to the people. The updated line includes tweaked MacBook Air devices with multi-functional USB-C port technology and iMacs with an option for new graphics chips from Advanced Micro Devices Inc.

As previously rumored, the new thinner MacBook Pro is said to feature a digital touch display above the keyboard where the function keys are currently located. The feature is internally being called the 'Dynamic Function Row' but it's official name may be different. It displays a digital representation of the standard function row when on the desktop but when in an application it can change to reflect functions more applicable to the task at hand. Volume controls and a switch to show the default function row are always present.

The Safari web browser would enable controls for finding and defining terms, while the iMovie video editor would offer controls for cutting clips and a more-precise volume slider, the people said.

Additionally, Apple is working on a new standalone monitor to replace the 27-inch Thunderbolt display it discontinued earlier this year. The company is partnering with LG Electronics on the high resolution screen which is frustratingly absent from the company's current offerings.
