All the Adapters and Cables You'll Need for the New MacBook Pro

Posted October 28, 2016 at 5:08pm by iClarified
Apple just unveiled its new MacBook Pro and in typical fashion the company has dropped many of the ports we commonly use, leaving just USB-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Here's a roundup of all adapters, dongles, and cables you'll need for the new MacBook Pro.

Griffin 'MagSafe' USB-C Power Cable: $34.99
Apple's MagSafe connector has saved many laptops from destruction caused by tripping over one's power cord. But with the introduction of USB-C on new MacBooks, this safety feature is absent. BreakSafe brings the safety and convenience back to newer MacBooks and other laptops with USB-C type connectors. The quick-release magnetic connector plugs into your laptop’s USB-C port and safely disconnects from the rest of the cable when under stress or strain, like tripping over the power cord.

Too many adapters needed for me to buy this computer. Too bad, because I like it otherwise, but I have a desktop monitor that uses HDMI, my wide field webcam uses USB and I have a boatload of old chargers from my previous MB Pros. I've gotten used to carrying around my lightning to VGA for presentations, but it's easy to forget it, so why would I want to have any more dongles that can easily be forgotten or lost. Truly dumb, Apple. I don't mind you bringing in new standards, but give us more time to phase out the old ones by leaving at least one USB port and one HDMI.

And FireWire? I stil have a bunch of HDDs and peripherals using either FW400 or FW800. I think' ll just say phuck it to these new CrapBook Pros and either get an older gen. model or be done with Apple once and for all. I can pretty much do anything I need with Linux anyway so this overpriced turd can start dying for all I care. Oh well. It was fun 12 years while it lasted..

What gimmicks? You can now add old ports to either side of the MacBook now, not to mention add more ports.

Why are people so upset? Wasn't this the original design goal of USB? To daisy chain devices?
ShadowOne
ShadowOne - October 29, 2016 at 3:31am
Because none of the adapters above can be daisy chained.

Well, people, remember Apple is all business. They design the new MacBook Pro by cutting cost, removing all other ports. Gain profit, consumer will have to pay for all the cables! Good for business, bad for consumer! Remember, you most likely break or loose those cables, so you will have to buy them again and again!

So a box full of adapters and the additional cost are Apple's idea of innovation ? "HELLO" Microsoft Surface. Tim Cook has turned Apple into a complete cluster fuck. Is Scully still around ? He could do better than this.

With all these adapters hanging off of your computer, your laptop is going to look like dreadlocks with a colorful headband. Screw Apple for the price point and for all these shitty ports that require adapters to work with anything and everything we have today. Apple is going down, Steve Jobs would've never allowed this debauchery of design and execution regarding the most recent iPhone 7 and MacBook Pros.
gamerscul9870
gamerscul9870 - October 29, 2016 at 5:15am
Oh please, Apple hasn't lost its touch and these ports are just the beginning of being anything in just one shape instead of trying to convert from one port to another!! Give it a damn break!

Do you really need a Ethernet plug? The MacBook retina never had it. Moving from that, I'd need $261 more. Still annoying though.

"Apple’s MagSafe connector has saved literally millions of laptops from destructions". REALLY???? MILLIONS??? Wow! <---sarcasm alert

Theyve been selling them to idiots for like 8 years, so millions is reasonable.

We are kind of Fu*k*d right now with all these adaptors but give it a year or 2, and we won't need adaptors. Everything will probably run on USB C. Flash drives, HDMI, power and much more. Until they release USB D In about 15 years then were all fu***d again.

I am a big Apple fan and have been for many years. This has been a disappointment , not the product but the price point and the excessive amount of adapters that are needed. This is gouging 101! I will stick with my retina MBP mid 2014 as it works amazing .
