LG Innotek will supply facial recognition camera modules for the iPhone 8, according to a recent report from the Korea Economic Daily.

A new facility worth $238.5 million will be dedicated to Apple's orders. The deal is worth an estimated $177 million.

Apple and LG Innotek, the market leader in the smartphone camera module market, teamed up last year to develop the world’s first 3-D facial recognition camera system that can be used for a variety of applications from biometric authentication to games.

The new front facing camera module will achieve better facial recognition than the Samsung Galaxy S8 which uses 2D technology. Recent reports have suggested that the system will feature three modules that run algorithms created by PrimeSense, an Israeli company Apple acquired in 2013.
