Apple has delayed mass production of its new 2020 iPhones by around one month, reports the WSJ.
The company is allegedly planning to release four new iPhone models this year. The phones will come in three sizes 5.4-inches, 6.1-inches, and 6.7-inches. All are said to feature OLED displays and some will have 5G.
Apple typically unveils its new smartphones in mid-September, releasing them before the end of the month. Production usually ramps in early summer with inventory building up around August. Sources tell the site that the schedule has been pushed back this year due to the coronavirus outbreak.
This year, while Apple would still be building some of the new phones in the July-to- September period, the mass-production ramp-up will slide back by about a month, the people said.
Additionally, Apple is expected to cut the amount of handsets it will produce.
Apple is slashing the number of handsets that it plans to make in the second half of this year by as much as 20%, one of the people said. It isn’t clear whether the slashed amount for 2020 would be pushed back into 2021 for manufacturing.
