Apple says the addition of a notch on the new MacBook Pro is a 'really smart' design choice.
Shruti Haldea, Pro Mac Product Line Manager at Apple, shared why the company believes the notch is an improvement on the Same Brain podcast.
"What we've done is we've actually made the display taller. So, you still have, like on the 16-inch notebook, you still have a 16.0 active area on the diagonal in that 16 by 10 inch window, and we just grew the display up from there and put the menubar up there. We just kind of moved it up and out of the way, so it's a really smart way to give you more space for your content and when you're in fullscreen mode, like you said, you have that 16 by 10 window and it looks great. It's seamless."

It admiringly does make sense because you have more screen space, but the camera has to in a way fit in alongside it, which is why we have yet to somehow make an under display camera for the foreseeable future.
