Arbutus Software has developed a new iPhone application called Jingle! that gives people the ability to easily "Tweet" music and other media content using Twitter. With Jingle! people can listen to a song, podcast or audiobook, then post information about that media to the popular microblogging service. This may include thousands of songs acquired through iTunes or other providers such as Amazon or Audible.
A new approach to Tweeting: Tweeting is the act of posting 140 characters of whatever you're doing. Typically, posting to Twitter involves some level of typing - either through a cell phone, desktop computer or other device. Jingle! takes a different approach. While listening, users tap a button to rate content. Then Jingle! posts a Tweet containing the media title, artist, and albumn with the user's rating. In most cases a person can Tweet whatever they are listening to without typing.
Automatic links makes recommendations easy: One of Jingle!'s most powerful features is its ability to match posted Tweets with corresponding iTunes hyperlinks. "Links to iTunes lets people forward recommended content quickly and easily. I'm especially excited about the use of Jingle! in the podcast community" says Wayne Bishop, a Seattle native and creator of Jingle!. "There's a lot of quality media out there, especially content managed through iTunes U. Now media providers can easily direct an audience to their latest show or podcast."
Pricing and Availability: Jingle! 1.1 is free and available exclusively through the App Store in the Music category. For additional information on Jingle! (e.g. product download or demonstration), contact Wayne Bishop or visit them online.
