Formula 1 fans in the United States will have a new way to watch the 2026 FIA Formula One World Championship. IMAX and Apple TV today announced a first-of-its-kind partnership to bring five major Grands Prix live to select IMAX locations nationwide.
The collaboration marks the first time live Formula 1 races will be shown in IMAX theaters across the country. Screenings will take place at at least 50 IMAX locations, offering a large-format viewing experience for five of the sport's most iconic events: Miami, Monaco, Silverstone, Monza, and Austin. The initiative coincides with Apple TV's inaugural season as the official U.S. broadcaster for F1, having confirmed coverage begins on March 7.
The schedule begins with the Miami Grand Prix on May 3, 2026, followed by the Monaco Grand Prix on June 7, 2026. The British Grand Prix at Silverstone takes place July 5, 2026, with the Italian Grand Prix at Monza airing September 6, 2026. The series concludes with the United States Grand Prix in Austin on October 25, 2026.
Oliver Schusser, Apple's vice president of Music, Sports, and Beats, said bringing F1 on Apple TV live to IMAX theaters nationwide delivers the energy and excitement of the sport to even more screens in an immersive format.
The announcement builds on IMAX and Apple's collaboration on "F1: The Movie," directed by Joseph Kosinski and shot entirely using IMAX-certified digital cameras. The film became the highest-grossing Hollywood release in IMAX for 2025, generating $97.6 million worldwide in the format. It made its global streaming debut in December and later won Critics Choice Awards for Best Editing and Best Sound. IMAX recently re-released the film across 50 U.S. IMAX screens following its nomination for Best Picture at the 98th Academy Awards.
The move into theaters comes as Apple expands its live sports strategy and extends the reach of Apple TV beyond traditional streaming.
