Apple has officially released iOS 27 and iPadOS 27, making the major software updates available for compatible iPhone and iPad models. The release follows more than three months of beta testing after the software was previewed at WWDC26 in June.
The updates introduce the next generation of Apple Intelligence and Siri AI, Apple's new version of Siri with personal context, onscreen awareness, app actions, broader world knowledge, and a dedicated app for revisiting conversations. Siri AI can also assist with writing, answer questions about what is visible through the Camera app, and find information across messages, emails, photos, and other apps.
Apple Intelligence adds new features throughout the system. Photos gains tools for reframing and extending images, Safari can organize tabs by topic and monitor webpages for changes, and Messages and Mail offer additional communication and writing assistance. Image Playground has also been rebuilt around a new image-generation model.
Parental controls receive a substantial update with redesigned Screen Time controls, age-appropriate protections for child accounts, website permission requests through Ask to Browse, and new tools for managing app categories and schedules. Communication Safety can also intervene when images or videos contain nudity, gore, or violent content.
Apple says apps can launch up to 30 percent faster on iPhone and iPad, recently captured photos can appear up to 70 percent faster, and AirDrop transfers can be up to 80 percent faster. iPad users also get faster browsing and file transfers when working with external drives.
The complete list of changes can be found in our iOS 27 release notes. You can also check the supported-device lists for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.
Siri AI requires a supported Apple Intelligence device. On iPhone, that includes the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, all iPhone 16 models, and newer devices. On iPad, support requires an M1 chip or later, or the iPad mini with A17 Pro. Siri AI is launching as a beta for supported devices set to English, but is not initially available on iPhone or iPad in the European Union. Apple Intelligence and Siri AI are also unavailable in China while Apple works through regulatory requirements.
The updates can be installed over the air by opening Settings and selecting General > Software Update.
