Early iPhone 18 Pro Benchmarks Show Big CPU and GPU Gains

Each benchmarks for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max have surfaced on the Geekbench 7 Browser. They show substantial generational gains for the A20 Pro, with average multi-core scores up 28 to 31 percent and Metal performance up 45 to 47 percent over last year's models.



Three unverified CPU runs identify the iPhone 18 Pro as iPhone19,2, with single-core scores ranging from 3927 to 4015 and multi-core scores between 10967 and 11460. The iPhone 18 Pro Max appears as iPhone19,3, posting single-core scores of 4017 to 4042 and multi-core results of 11418 to 11691 across all six cores.


Averaged across those runs, the iPhone 18 Pro scored 3983 in single-core and 11222 in multi-core performance, while the Pro Max averaged 4025 and 11536. Geekbench's current iOS chart lists the iPhone 17 Pro at 3153 and 8762, putting its successor about 26 percent ahead in single-core and 28 percent ahead in multi-core testing. Against iPhone 17 Pro Max averages of 3165 and 8792, the new Pro Max is approximately 27 percent and 31 percent faster, respectively.

The graphics gains are larger. Four iPhone 18 Pro Metal results range from 59972 to 62898, for an average of 61645. Two available Pro Max runs scored 62648 and 63294, averaging 62971. That's about 45 percent above the iPhone 17 Pro chart average of 42444 and 47 percent above the iPhone 17 Pro Max average of 42694.

The results also reveal a six-core processor running at up to 4.93GHz and about 11.2GB of usable memory, consistent with 12GB of installed RAM. Cache figures increase to 160KB for L1 instruction, 96KB for L1 data, and 8MB for L2, compared with 128KB, 64KB, and 6MB in an A19 Pro comparison result.

Apple says the 2-nanometer A20 Pro combines a six-core CPU with a seven-core GPU, 50 percent more memory bandwidth, and a Dual 16-core Neural Engine. The company also noted that the GPU is up to 40 percent faster than A19 Pro, while a redesigned vapor chamber enables up to 40 percent higher sustained performance.


The iPhone 18 Pro starts at $1,199, while the Pro Max starts at $1,299. Pre-orders open today, with both models arriving Friday, September 18.
