TSMC has edged out Samsung and landed all orders to supply Apple with 5G RF transceiver chips for the next generation iPhone 14, according to a UDN report.
The chips will be produced using the company's 6nm process, resulting in a smaller RF chip that consumes less power. This could help Apple squeeze out even more battery life for its next generation iPhone 14.
According to TSMC last year's technical forum information, the 6nm RF process provides significantly reduced power consumption and area for 5G RF transceivers below 6GHz and millimeter wave bands, while taking into account the performance, functions and battery life required by consumers. Enhanced support for WiFi 6/6e performance and power efficiency.
TSMC is a major Apple production partner. It's estimated that 25.4% of its 2021 revenue came from the Cupertino company. TSMC is also expected to produce two A16 Bionic processors for the iPhone 14. Both will have a 6-core processor architecture, but will be differentiated according to the number of graphics cores.
