Apple is now working to bring touchscreens to Mac after rejecting the idea for years, according to a recent Bloomberg report.

Apple has long said touchscreens don't work well on laptops, directing customers to purchase an iPad instead; however, it appears the company may be set to change its stance.

Based on current internal deliberations, the company could launch its first touch-screen Mac in 2025 as part of a larger update to the MacBook Pro, according to the people, who asked not to be identified because the plans are private.

Apple engineers are said to be actively engaged in the project, indicating that idea is under serious consideration. While plans have yet to be finalized, Apple is allegedly feeling pressure from rivals who already offer touchscreen notebooks.

The first touchscreen MacBook Pro would purportedly keep the same design as it currently has, while simply featuring a touch capable display. It will also continue to run macOS.

Back in 2010, Apple co-founder Steve Jobs expressed his dislike for the idea saying, "Touch surfaces don't want to be vertical". Jobs also noted that "after an extended period of time, your arm wants to fall off." Despite this, Apple has frequently changed its mind and reversed course on positions as markets evolve and consumer demand change.
