Apple Pencil 3 to Support Multiple New Squeeze Gestures

Code references found in iPadOS 17.5 beta reveal that next generation Apple Pencil will support multiple new squeeze gestures, reports iMore.

Diving into the code present in the iPadOS 17.5 beta reveals that Apple is set to introduce new stylus-based gesture controls that would not be possible with the current generation Apple Pencil 2 device, adding weight to growing rumors that a refresh of its stylus line-up is coming.

The site has found code in iPadOS that indicates the device will be able to detect if a user gives the barrel of the stylus a 'long squeeze' or a 'double squeeze'. This is addition to the previously reported short 'squeeze' gesture. Presumably, users will be able to assign a different actions to each gesture.

Currently, Apple is selling three different Apple Pencils models:
Apple Pencil 1 - $99
Apple Pencil 2 - $120.09
Apple Pencil USB-C - $79

The new Apple Pencil will likely launch alongside the new iPad Pro and iPad Air models that are now expected in early May. It's unclear if Apple will discontinue any of the current Apple Pencil models when that happens.
