Apple is reportedly planning to equip the iPhone 17 series with advanced VC heat dissipation technology, according to a new rumor from MyDrivers.
The report suggests that Apple has decided to add VC (Vapor Chamber) heat dissipation plates to its next-generation iPhone models in an effort to address overheating issues observed in previous models.
After the overheating issues with the A17 Pro chip in the iPhone 15 Pro series, the A18 Pro in the iPhone 16 Pro has made some improvements but still struggles with excessive heat. Now, Apple seems to have learned its lesson and is finally addressing heat dissipation. According to the latest industry reports, Apple will enhance the thermal performance of the iPhone 17 series by equipping all models with VC heat dissipation plates.
VC (Vapor Chamber) heat dissipation plates are used to efficiently dissipate heat. Here's a closer look at how they work...
How VC Heat Dissipation Plates Work: 1. Structure: A VC plate consists of a sealed, flat, thin chamber filled with a working fluid (commonly water) and an internal wick structure. 2. Heat Absorption: When a component, such as a CPU or GPU, generates heat, the fluid inside the VC plate absorbs this heat and evaporates into vapor. 3. Heat Distribution: The vapor spreads throughout the chamber, transferring the heat away from the source to cooler areas. 4. Condensation: The vapor condenses back into liquid as it reaches cooler parts of the chamber, releasing the heat to the surrounding environment or a heat sink. 5. Cycle: The liquid returns to the heat source via the wick, restarting the cycle.
Notably, this rumor contradicts an earlier one from TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo who said back in August that the iPhone 17 Pro Max would be the only device to get an upgraded thermal management system.
--- Among the 2025 new iPhone models, only the iPhone 17 Pro Max will feature the following specifications ... An upgraded cooling system combining vapor chamber (VC) technology and graphite sheets. Other 2025 new iPhone models will continue to use graphite sheets alone for thermal management. ---
