Apple is giving students a new tool in their quest for a college Mac, releasing a humorous new video that directs them to a downloadable presentation template designed to help win over mom and dad.
The new ad, titled "How to Convince Your Parents to Get You a Mac," is framed as a "College Prep Assembly" where a presenter schools students on how to make their case. After an unconvincing first attempt by an audience member, the host introduces "The Parent Presentation," a customizable slide deck available in Keynote, PowerPoint, and Google Slides that's filled with parent-friendly arguments.
The template is loaded with practical arguments for parents, covering everything from the Mac's durability and performance to its built-in security features. In a more tongue-in-cheek slide, it even makes a case for the MacBook Air's lightweight design by linking it to better spine health. The whole pitch boils down to this: while a Mac might have a higher upfront cost, it could save money in the long run compared to a cheaper PC that often requires extra software and accessories.
The video's release coincides with Apple's annual Back to School promotion, and the presentation's "great deal" argument is backed by some serious discounts on Amazon, where both the M4 MacBook Air and M4 Mac mini recently hit their lowest prices ever.
The presentation concludes with a summary slide that gives students a ready-made closing argument: "The value of a Mac is greater than other laptops. It's versatile, and ready for any and every academic pursuit I choose. Its reliability takes away the stress of potential crashes. It's loaded with features that can help me be a better student and get a leg up on my peers. Designed to last through college and beyond."
