Apple Releases macOS 27 Golden Gate Beta 5 to Developers [Download]

Apple has seeded the fifth developer beta of macOS 27 Golden Gate, continuing the testing period for its next major desktop operating system.



The latest build carries version number 26A5406e and arrives a few weeks after Apple provided the fourth round of test builds. This software cycle focuses heavily on expanding Apple Intelligence across the Mac while refining the visual experience.


To address readability complaints tied to the Liquid Glass aesthetic, the operating system introduces a transparency control slider that lets users manually adjust the opacity of interface elements. Apple has also implemented more uniform toolbars, cleaner edge-to-edge sidebars, and standardized window corners to create a more consistent workspace.

Under the hood, Siri AI integrates directly into Spotlight through a new Search or Ask interface. The assistant gains onscreen awareness to answer questions about active content, and a dedicated Siri app allows users to manage their conversation history. The system also brings AI-driven tab organization to Safari and a rebuilt Image Playground app capable of generating photorealistic graphics.

Registered developers can download the new beta by navigating to the Software Update menu within System Settings. Because macOS 27 drops support for Intel processors, the software requires a Mac equipped with Apple silicon. A full restore image is also available through the Apple Developer Center for those performing clean installations.
