What's New in iOS 27 Beta 5: Updated Icons, Siri Voices, and More

Apple has released the fifth developer beta of iOS 27, bringing another round of interface refinements and improvements. The update is available now for developer testing, arriving three weeks after beta 4.

On the visual side, several system apps have received updated Liquid Glass icons with more detailed effects. Safari, Siri, Settings, Remote, App Store, and Preview all feature refreshed iconography, with Safari now sporting a prominent dot at its center. Apple has also added first-launch splash screens in Photos, Wallet, and Music that highlight new features in iOS 27.



Siri AI voice customization continues to expand. The Pace and Expressivity sliders introduced in the third beta now support all seven American voices and all four British English voices, letting users fine-tune how Siri sounds. Because the feature is processed on-device, these advanced voice settings remain limited to the iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and iPhone Air.



Search gets a new "Before Searching" section in Search Settings, giving users more control over Home Screen suggestions. Users can choose to display no apps, four apps, or eight apps in Search, toggle app shortcut suggestions, and enable or disable recent searches. The Search or Ask animation has also been refined so suggestions appear more seamlessly alongside the search bar, and a "Search the Web" option has been added to the bottom of results.



Control Center no longer displays the cellular network type, such as 5G or LTE, while connected to Wi-Fi. The Battery section in Settings can now alert users if a poor cellular signal is draining power, and the About screen now shows when the last software update was installed.



Contacts now display an associated company name directly in the list, making it easier to distinguish between entries. Mail also gains a new toggle for Personalize Smart Replies that is disabled by default in Settings. The Wallet app's Create a Pass feature is now available outside the United States, while 5G+ service has reportedly expanded to Spain.
