Apple's next iPad Pro is getting a second front-facing camera, according to a new report from Mark Gurman. In his latest newsletter, Gurman says the upcoming M5-powered models will add a camera on the portrait side to go along with the one on the landscape edge.

When Apple moved the FaceTime camera to the landscape edge on the M4 iPad Pro, it was a great change for anyone who uses their tablet with a keyboard. But it made things awkward for everyone else. Unlocking with Face ID or taking a video call in portrait mode became a hassle. A second camera would fix that, making the iPad work smoothly no matter how you hold it.

Gurman points out this isn't the first time Apple has toyed with dual-orientation features. The original 2010 iPad was supposed to have two 30-pin dock connectors, but Steve Jobs reportedly killed the idea before launch. Unlike that extra port, the dual cameras should be pretty unobtrusive, since they'll be hidden behind the display's black bezel.

This new detail comes on the heels of earlier reports that Apple is already in the advanced testing phase for an M5-powered iPad Pro, with a potential launch expected before the end of this year.
