A new report from 9to5Mac claims Apple's upcoming AirPods Pro 3 will gain new health sensors, while a key software feature may be delayed. The claims come from an anonymous source ahead of Apple's special event next week.
The report alleges the new AirPods Pro 3 will feature two health sensors for heart rate and temperature monitoring. A heart rate sensor would not be a complete surprise, as the feature was previously introduced in the Powerbeats Pro 2. Apple has also been pushing its earbuds further into the health space, adding hearing health features to the AirPods Pro 2 last fall. A recent rumor also pointed to a redesigned charging case with touch controls and no pairing button.
While the hardware may be getting an upgrade, a rumored live translation feature for AirPods may not be ready at launch. The source claims that live translation "is not ready, and will likely be added in a later software update." While Apple introduced system-wide Live Translation with iOS 26, a dedicated feature for AirPods has been the subject of ongoing rumors. The potential delay would follow Apple's decision to postpone its most advanced Siri features until next year.
The 9to5Mac report suggests the AirPods Pro 3 will be unveiled at Apple's 'Awe dropping' special event on September 9. However, this timeline contradicts earlier forecasts from analysts Jeff Pu and Ming-Chi Kuo, who both predicated that the AirPods Pro 3 would not launch until 2026.
