During the extended interview, Cook noted that Apple culturally avoids dwelling on the past. Instead of celebrating historical victories, the company places its energy entirely on what comes next. Cook admitted that taking a moment to reflect on the 50-year milestone required building a new muscle for an organization conditioned to always look ahead.

The conversation naturally turned to Cook's arrival at Apple in 1998. At the time, the company was in a dire financial state, struggling to make payroll and watching its revenue shrink dramatically to roughly $1.3–$1.4 billion in quarterly revenue. Despite the bleak outlook and advice from colleagues to stay away, Cook decided to join. He explained that his decision was heavily influenced by a meeting with Steve Jobs, who possessed a vision that stood in stark contrast to the rest of the tech industry.

While competitors were abandoning consumer products to focus on enterprise clients, Jobs was doubling down on the everyday user. Cook described Jobs as having a uniquely intense passion for product design. He realized that joining Apple was a rare opportunity to work alongside someone completely committed to empowering individuals.

Cook emphasized that the principles Jobs embedded into Apple remain the company's foundation today. He pointed to deep collaboration, an intense focus on excellence, and keeping the user at the center of every decision as permanent fixtures of Apple's DNA. He also highlighted the company's ongoing commitments to privacy, education, and accessibility. According to Cook, while hardware and software will continuously evolve, these core values are designed to guide the company for centuries.

The interview also touched on the leadership transition that occurred before Jobs passed away. Jobs had planned for a professional handover of the CEO role, an organized shift that had never happened in Apple's previous leadership changes. Cook noted that he fully expected Jobs to remain involved as chairman for a long time, making his sudden passing a profound shock.

Cook's comments about leadership and succession also arrive as Apple adjusts its executive structure. Recent reports say the company has quietly expanded executive roles in recent months.

Looking toward the future, Cook maintained that his primary objective is to preserve Apple's culture. He reiterated that the company's fundamental goal remains unchanged from its earliest days: to create insanely great products that enrich people's lives and give them the tools to change the world.

Take a look at the interview below.
