Apple Planning iMac Refresh With New Colors Later This Year [Report]

Apple is preparing to refresh its desktop computer lineup later this year, with plans to introduce an updated iMac featuring a refreshed color palette.



Following the recent launch of the $599 MacBook Neo and the rollout of the M5 MacBook Pro, the rest of Apple's Mac family is waiting its turn. According to Mark Gurman in his latest Power On newsletter, the roadmap for the remainder of 2026 is now taking shape.


The next major hardware drop is expected to center on the Mac Studio. Apple is preparing to release upgraded versions of its professional desktop around the middle of the year. While Gurman did not specify the exact chips that will power the new models, Apple is widely expected to transition the machines to the next generation of Apple silicon. Recent code discovered in iOS 26.3 betas already revealed identifiers for the unreleased M5 Max and M5 Ultra processors that will likely power the new Studio models.

Following the Mac Studio, Apple plans to update both the iMac and the Mac mini. While the new Mac Studio and Mac mini will retain their current physical designs, the upcoming iMac refresh will stand out visually. Gurman reports that the all-in-one desktop will arrive with a refreshed set of colors. Apple has relied on the same vibrant hues since the iMac was redesigned with the M1 chip in 2021, making this the first notable aesthetic change to the lineup in several years.

These desktop updates will bridge the gap before Apple makes its most dramatic change to the Mac portfolio. By the end of the year, the company is expected to unveil a high-end, touch-enabled OLED MacBook Pro. For now, desktop users can expect a steady stream of processor upgrades culminating in a fresh new look for the iMac.
