Oura has announced the Oura Ring 5, a major hardware update that the company says is 40 percent smaller while adding new cardiovascular tracking tools and expanded health software features. The launch adds renewed competition in the smart ring market, an area Apple has reportedly been monitoring as alternatives to traditional smartwatches gain traction.
To achieve the smaller design, Oura completely redesigned the ring's internal architecture. The new titanium ring is thinner and more compact than previous generations, measuring 6.09mm wide and 2.28mm thick. Oura says the updated hardware also improves sensor accuracy using low-profile sensor domes, brighter LEDs, and 12 signal pathways designed to capture more consistent readings across different skin tones and finger shapes. The company also says it is its most scratch-resistant ring yet and retains waterproofing up to 100 meters.
Despite the smaller design, Oura says the ring now delivers between six and nine days of battery life depending on usage and ring size.
The hardware changes arrive alongside a software push focused on preventive health. A new Health Radar system continuously monitors biometric signals in the background to identify potential warning signs before they become more serious. The standout addition is Blood Pressure Signals, a nighttime monitoring system designed to detect patterns that may indicate cardiovascular strain. Oura says the ring analyzes how blood pressure trends during sleep and flags cases where it fails to dip as expected overnight, a potential early warning sign associated with cardiovascular risk.
Oura is also introducing Nighttime Breathing, a feature that tracks long-term breathing disturbance patterns during sleep and highlights changes that may warrant medical evaluation. Both Health Radar features will initially launch in the United States, India, and the United Arab Emirates for users running the app in English.
The company is also expanding its software ecosystem beyond fitness tracking. A new Health Records feature will let U.S. users import medical records, lab results, medications, and diagnosed conditions into the Oura app. Oura is additionally partnering with Counsel Health to offer AI-assisted medical guidance and access to licensed healthcare providers directly inside the app for eligible users in the United States.
For workouts, a new live activity tracking system displays real-time pace, distance, and heart rate metrics on the iPhone lock screen. Users can also connect supported external heart rate monitors for additional tracking data.
Oura is further expanding its metabolic health tools with support for GLP-1 medication tracking. Users can log dosing schedules, side effects, weight changes, and related biometric trends in one place.
To support the smaller form factor, Oura also introduced a new aluminum charging case capable of storing roughly a month of backup power for the ring. The accessory supports wireless charging and includes a button for pairing and battery status checks. A new Locate feature can also help users find a misplaced ring or charging case.
The Oura Ring 5 is available to pre-order today, with shipping set to begin June 4. Base finishes in Silver and Black start at $399, while premium finishes including Gold, Stealth, Brushed Silver, and Deep Rose cost $499. The ring will also be available through retailers including Amazon, Best Buy, Costco, Target, and Walmart.
Accessing the platform's daily health insights still requires an ongoing Oura Membership subscription priced at $5.99 per month or $69.99 per year.
