Pegatron Signals Apple's Standard iPhone 18 Delay Until 2027

Pegatron has lent further support to reports that Apple's standard iPhone 18 won't arrive alongside the Pro lineup this September. During its second-quarter earnings call, Pegatron said one of its smartphone customers would adopt a different shipment schedule. Taiwan's Economic Daily News identified that customer as Apple, reporting that the iPhone 18 Pro, iPhone 18 Pro Max, and Apple's first foldable iPhone remain on track for their usual September debut, while the base iPhone 18 is now expected in the first quarter of 2027. The comments build on earlier indications from lens supplier Largan and months of supply-chain speculation about a staggered iPhone rollout.



The delayed launch aligns with reports dating back to January that Apple was planning to postpone the standard iPhone 18 to prioritize its higher-end devices as component constraints intensified. A global memory shortage, combined with bottlenecks in advanced chip packaging, has been cited as the primary reason for the shift. The strategy allows Apple to prioritize limited components for its higher-margin devices before expanding the lineup in early 2027, with memory supplies expected to remain tight through 2027.


Under that schedule, the base iPhone 18 would launch alongside a lower-cost iPhone 18e and second-generation iPhone Air in spring 2027, roughly six months after the Pro lineup and the foldable. The roadmap also aligns with identifiers discovered in the latest iOS 27 beta, which reference six unreleased iPhone models expected across the two launch windows.
