Apple TV Shares Trailer for 'Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook' [Video]

Apple TV has released the trailer for 'Awkwafina: The Unlikely Cook,' an eight-episode docuseries following Nora Lum as she tries to revive her family's Chinese restaurant. The series premieres globally on November 6, 2026.

Lum, better known as Awkwafina, comes from the family behind Lum's, a Cantonese restaurant in Flushing, New York. She inherited its legacy but never learned to cook. With help from chefs, restaurateurs and relatives, she travels across the country to develop her kitchen skills and reimagine its legacy for a new generation.

Her trip includes a course at the Culinary Institute of America, Texas barbecue with Jimmy O. Yang, and lessons from Roy Choi and Martin Yan. In Hawai'i, Lum explores the tiki culture that inspired her grandmother's restaurant, then takes a turn serving at a restaurant in Los Angeles' Chinatown. The journey leads to an opening night with her grandmother among the diners.
