Seems to good to be true on every video, why are we seeing just there hand. Of course Apple wont admit straight away its there design fault. Ok we can see its ina room in the building but this person phone has obvious got something attached to him or there is signal jammer in the room. No one hold a phone with just 2 or 3 finger tips even if there texting or holding for phone conversation. Excuse my language but everyone would look like a retard, and if we all started handling the phoine in this way its like we trying to hold a piece of gold because its so delicate. I find it so funny that Apple are blaming all the other leading manufacturers, like RIM and Nokia. Even if you dont admit it, we all handle our phone any phone, in the most comfortable way which is like cupping it. Anything could be happening in the room where these videos are being recorded where the guys grasps the phone there could be another guy pressing a "button" to start signal blocking/jamming. Look i have had an Iphone 3G, unlocked since its relased never had one problem with it in signal. Ok im in the UK and the signal isnt amazing here, but we get 3G. After watching a video of the press conference i just thought i would see if i could get reduced bars. I normally get full bars of 3G in my room, the only i could manage to get no bars on a 3G, was to use 2 hands practically covering the whole handset like i was going to crush it in my hand. Then i saw it happen. Its utter rubbush that all smart phones do it. The only way they could record demos like this and make it happen is if they got sort some of jammer.

The Apple PR experts strike again, as seen in the comments of other users. The issue is not the death grip, which affects most phones; its the finger spot. Simply put, its using a finger to bridge the 2 antennas by covering the black line in the bottom right of the phone with a single finger. Apple turned this into the death grip, because it draws attention away from their obvious design flaw of having bare metal antennas capable of bridged by the user. This major design flaw is a slap in the face of phone makers and engineers everywhere. Why is Apple allowed to get away with the single largest design flaw ever seen in a PDA??? Giving out free cases that don't work with Apple's own docks is another slap in the face; they can do a repair service in house, coating the bare metal with an ultra thin layer of insulation, fixing this issue. Instead of owning up and fixing the problem, they're giving out cheap crappy cases cause it costs so much less than fixing the problem. Is BP getting away with just putting a cap on an oil spill and saying its slowing it down, thats good enough? Of course not. They're being fined billions of dollars and going through a PR disaster. Does anyone still like BP? No. Apple. Yes. Why? Why can Apple say, "We'll give you a free case of our choosing" and get away with it. I say free Ballistic HC cases for all. At least give someone a case that'll stop both pieces of glass from being destroyed.

Dude.........This is so last week news. Get over yourself! No one cares what you think about Apple or what you think about BP. Your efforts to try and bridge Apple in the same category or even worse than BP is absolutely ridiculous. An oil leak can kill sea life, birds......and if it got worse possibly even humans. Tell me that you've heard of a cell phone manufacturer killing living things. Can't believe you'd even try to pull this one off. Total amature! You're just mad becuase you wish you owned an Apple product.

wut? - July 21, 2010 at 10:17pm
hey james, i don't think it really matters if it's one finger or not - no one's gonna be holding their phone using one finger - almost everyone will be holding their phones like in the videos when they talk - and that ultimately drops the signal for all the phones including the iphone 4.. so i still don't get what the big deal is. every phone has this flaw.. yea those engineers need to get over it and come up with a fix and i ain't just talking about apple

i'm wondering how Mr Steve use his Iphone 4 to make call? The most curious thing is "how is he going to hold the phone?" True is that when there is a problem to solve, Apple didnt really solve it BUT telling bullshits thing to cover their own ass! This is the end of Iphone on the trust to their customer! Really full of CRAPS!

By the nokia or samsung has to be in the outside area not inside a room were you only see the phone and a hand holding it, has anyone heard of signal jammers they work in a way where signal drops step by step ... i dont use nokia or a samsung, no matter which way i hold my blackberry i never had such problem. I your product has a problem admit it dont be a cocky and say return it if u dont like it. From a consumer end i think there should have been more respect to consumer rather than giving away a free $1 BUMPER (cost to make) which does not even protect the phone.

Not all Toyota cars had break problems, but that didn't stop Toyota from doing a mass recall to stop anybody else get killed, point is .. there is a real and true problem and design fault with the iPhone 4, this has been admitted by Apple even though they have admitted it by blaming other mobile phone manufacturers to try and deflect the issues away from themselves. Of course not all phones will have this problem, but by admitting the problem is there they should now address it, not by giving away a rubber band, but by giving all iPhone users the choice to take their phone back for a modification or replacement, its up to the consumer then, not Apple .. and not all the "my phone has no problem" people that are quick to shoot anybody down with the problem that is at best irritating and at worst could potentially cost people a lot of money

Some iPhone 4s with the "death grip" will not kill anybody though, so what's your point? I'm happy with my iPhone 4. It has better signal then ever before, and I do hold my phone naturally with my left hand. I learned how to hold it right handed, and I also bought a case because anyone without a case on their brand new $200 phone is quite dumb to say the least.

Oh and one more thing you brought this upon yourself you chose to change the design which isnt a bad thing but you never seen any videos of a mass number of users dropping bars on there phone with 1 Finger!!!!!!!!!!!! Please remake all those videos and put 1 finger on the back where the antenna is instead of the whole hand I bet the results only stay the same on the iPhone 4. This is coming from an iphone 4 user. Pretty bad we cant even brag about our phones because Steve Jobs is a dick and wants to "Reevaluate in September" Oh well I guess ill just hide with my iphone until he decides that its his fault and not the whole smartphones companies fault.

Ok im going to agree this has gone to far your showing videos of phone with the death grip covering the antenna with the whole hand....No one holds there phone like your making these videos however the iphone four some people do slide a finger over that area and you drop a call. Im an iPhone 4 user and as much as I want to take it back I wont because I love the phone itself and the os is great....when its jailbroken. I will deal with the problem but if you were smart at all Jobs this wouldnt be happening. You said you want to make us all happy but a free case or our money back isnt making us all happy some people like me would like you to stop making videos about others phone to make yourself seem better. I mean the phone does drop close to 1 more call then the 3GS. Others want their case and for you to stop makin videos. I want you to stop making videos, and fix the problem. I have talked alot of people into buying this new iphone but they simply wont WHY U ASK? Because you wont listen to experts outside of apple that say it can be fixed but yea ok ill deal with it til september.

Steve Jobs isn't smart? I love that. If you were smart, you might be the single largest holder of Disney stock and the head of one of the largest companies on the planet, but you're not, you're just some random Internet prick pretending to have an iPhone.

Show the same thing where signal degrades with one finger on the Nokia? or that ALL bars are gone and the phone drops the call. Thank you very much!
why so much hate?
why so much hate? - July 21, 2010 at 5:12am
all apple has shown the world is that other phones are also susceptible to this death-grip issue. why so much hate? is it mudslinging? well sure it's a form of mudslinging, but it's more like they're comparing themselves against other phone makers. Basically they're just saying, look - we're not the only one having this problem. Other makers have this problem too. It's a bit unfair to just pin it to Apple just because their phones are darn popular. Not really a fanboy but just didn't really understand why so much hate against Apple showing these ads to the world...

Not sure if you were expecting a reply, but here goes. I do not hate Apple (or anyone else for that matter), and I am not amazed or dissapointed that the phone has a fault. It's the nature of the beast that modern technology has faults due to it's complexity and I accept that Apple has a valid point to show that other manufacturers can have similar issues. They are now labouring that point, by repeatedly stating that other companies goods are as faulty as theirs does not improve the quality of theirs. All that Apple have to do (and they mostly have) is to accept that there is a problem and reassure customers that they are working to rectify the situation. The added bonus of a gift (a case) was totally unexpected and appreciated. After watching the press conference the other day, my confidence and respect are restored, as long as they take the higher ground and cease these pointless "mud slinging" tactics.

No hatred but feeling disgusted! It is just like a doctor miss prescribed a young couple of having oral sex to create babies and YET the female didn't got pregnant. The doctor eventually putting an excuses example to the couple by saying : "Well you see all couple having SEX creates baby but same not everyone got the baby too"
