This worked perfectly for me. I just followed the directions, didn't skip steps, and made sure I was selecting exactly what was pictured and now my 2g is syncing with iTunes as I type. I will definitely be recommending this to everyone.

I followed all the instructions and the Iphone still won't accept the sim card I trried and use. Where did I go wrong? How do I uninstall the program? Does anyone know any good iphone unlocking software? Thanks

If the above method does not work you can get your iPhone unlocked online by downloading some simple software. Try visiting http://unlockiphone4free.blogspot.com/ I got my iPhone unlocked quickly and easily using the unlock Apple iPhone software.

Hey I just wanted to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for mentioning the trick with usb hub for users running OSX 10.5.6 I was pulling out what little hair I have trying to jailbreak my 2g. After hours of searching forums, threads, and guides I FINALLY came across this. Thanks again for the attention to detail.

My phone won't shut off long enough for me to complete the final step of DFU. It just turns off for 4 seconds, but then restarts and reloads the image of a usb plug and an arrow pointing upwards towards the iTunes symbol. Any suggestions on how to turn it off completely long enough to fulfill the DFU step? Thanks. So far it's been very helpful.

Accidentally updated my iPhone 2G software to 2.2.1 and then lost all my iPhone functionality. Had tried several other methods of unlocking and jailbreaking and wasted countless hours trying to get the iPhone working again but this was the ONLY ONE that did it without a hitch and exactly as described in the video. Thanks!!!

For guys using the new macbook running 10.5.6, use a USB hub. iTunes does not give a 2001 error and detects the phone in DFU mode when a USB hub is used.

Ok defintely DO NOT USE a Mac from 2008. Scared the sh out of me, thought my phone was bricked. I read the comments (most useful) and what worked for me was Quickpwn in a non2008 laptop mac, then normal restore (without the power and home button schezz) of the ipsw file created from Pwnage Tool. They should warn everybody!! After that it was cream over berries!!! (it was smooth i mean...)

you have to download it with firefox, cause safari decompresses it automatically into a folder. If firefox doesn´t work try a download manager (like Download Manager).

Done and it worked perfectly, starting from a ziphone-ed 1.1.4. It is now working perfectly, despite having not asked for bootloaders recognition. Thanks very much for the tutorial.

I'm a massive fan of my iPhone and have a O2 account which I'm very happy with. This may sound really stupid but I'm going to ask anyway. If I Jailbreak my iPhone 3G will it mess up my contract or indeed future updates like v.3 software? I'm a expert .OS X user so the procedure posted here looks very well and may I say how well it is explained. Any advice would be welcome. I was thinking of testing the process on my iPod Touch but I advise from here first. Thanks, Nick

It messed up one of my iPhones, so I'd proceed with caution. I did successfully jailbreak one, but I can only get a screen with the itunes icon and usb port and can't get ANYTHING else on the other one.

I´d try to quickpwn it in windows. Same thing happened to me, 2 iphones one succeeded and one fail and had to do it in windows and worked nicely. Even after taht, i wanted to do the whole process again, and the iphone that once worked with mac, didn´t the second time and had to do it in windows which again worked nicely. I don´t know why.

I have 2G iPhone. I did exactly as per the tutorial. The phone is in DFU mode. I have imac with OS X 10.5.6 However I am unable to re enable my iPhone as iTunes doesnt detect my iPhone. I also tried your advise on 'iPhone | How to Enable DFU Mode in Mac OS X 10.5.6" by downloading fixing the patch as per the tutorial. However still my iPhone is undetected in iTunes. My iPhone is still in DFU mode and cant use it now. Please advise.

I have gotten up to step 12 when you're in iTunes and click alt/option and restore and choose the custom restore. My phone shows the apple logo and then a circle turning constantly underneath. After about 5 minutes it says something to the effect that it could not be restored (error 1604). I have tried several times and nothing...also tried on a different account. Please help! Thanks!

do you have access to the settings in your iphone, cause if you do then go on general, about, and scroll down and see if you have an IMEI and CCID number. If you dont have those number's and codes then your in big trouble and your iphone is literally bricked, if you do have those set of numbers and codes then you're on the safe side.

Mel - April 7, 2009 at 7:34am
I can't even get the phone functioning. It's stuck either on the apple with the circle turning underneath or at the iTunes logo and the USB cord :(...even tried just clicking restore in iTunes but it won't even do that restore.

Melissa - April 7, 2009 at 7:50am
I've got the screen with the usb cord and NOTHING else. I wonder if an ATT store could save my phone. :(

what do you mean "bricked"?
ahmed wahsh
ahmed wahsh - April 6, 2009 at 6:11pm
Do not do this, it totally messes up your phone i had to spend alot of money to unlock it. to removes your IMEI and CCID number and doesn't allow the phone to read you sim.

My iPhone is COMPLETELY frozen after running this jailbreak and I can reboot.

i have the 2G iphone, have done the jailbreak, no problem, followed the step by step but it is not unlocking the phone, still says "no service". Version says 2.2.1 (5H11). On setting, General, it says Network:not available. Even show my voicemail but it does not recognize the sim card.

Jailbreak is to let you use your iPhone to the capacity of an iPod Touch. You need to "unlock" your iPhone to use it to maximum capacity. You need to read more on the terminology of iPhone that can be found here in iClarified.

yes, but I above says that it also unlocks the phone. So how can I unlock it? I can't find the instructions on how to unlock, i thought the above was for jailbreak and unlock. Could you please give me the link on how to be able to use ny sim card on my phone? thanks !

I successfully ran the Jailbreak on my first phone, but my second one is stuck. It won't run the iphone restore and keeps giving me diffenent errors (I've tried 2 computers) and the only image I can get on the screen is the usb cord connecting to iTunes. Can someone help?

I had some problems with my 2g iphone after running pwnage with error odes such as 2, 21 and 1600 in itunes. I restored to the original 2.2.1 ipsw-file and ran quickpwn. That worked for me.

Well on mac os x 10.5.6, you need to download a usb fix to make it see the iphone in DFU mode, it happened to me. hope this helps

Update: I ran Pwnage one more time, and this time installed yellowsnow and bosspref's. I followed all the instructions, but still get no signal. Is there anyway to do this?
Jeffrey
Jeffrey - March 24, 2009 at 2:23am
I just got a brand new iPhone 3G. I thought the very first thing I would do was jailbreak it using the 2.2.1 custom firmware created by Pwnage 2.2.5. But -- I misread the instructions. Pwnage created the new firmware, but I stupidly thought it meant to just use iTunes to Restore (not option-click and choose the custom file). Anyway, I finally figured it out, but by then it was too late. However, I figured since I'm with ATT anyway, I didn't need the iPhone unlocked, just jailbroken. So I ran Pwnage again, this time, choosing the custom ipsw. All went smoothly, but the iPhone now says No Signal. I tried everything I knew to get signal, hard reset, resetting my Network prefs, to no avail. So finally, I reverted back to the standard 2.2.1 restore in iTunes -- voila: Signal. Is there still a way to jailbreak this thing?

Hiya just to let you know that I was using iTunes 8.1 1st gen iPhone 10.5.6 (on UK Orange network) and it worked fine the SECOND time. First time after restore I got error reports (which scared me somewhat!) but then I ran restore a second time and it worked fine. I didn't need to use the automater script to get the phone into DFU mode, it worked OK. The only difference between the first and second restore was that I quit Pwnage tool, so that might have made a difference, might not have. Thanks for easy to follow instructions!

MSM - March 21, 2009 at 7:51pm
The "2.2.1 (2G): iPhone1,1_2.2.1_5H1_Restore.ipsw" link in the tutorial above points to the 3g .ipsw download, which does not work for the 2g.
