The iPhone Dev-Team has updated RedSn0w for iOS 5.0.1 and added some new useful features.
What's New in RedSn0w 0.9.9b9: ● native support for 5.0.1 (no need to point redsn0w at 5.0 IPSW or use command-line args). Support automatically extends to all of redsn0w's various functions: "Jailbreak", "Just boot", "Fetch blobs", "Stitch blobs", "Recovery Fix" ● iBooks fixed in 5.0 and 5.0.1. This is a targeted fix that doesn't remove entire sandbox mechanism. 5.x users already using redsn0w "Just Boot" can just use the new version without redoing entire jailbreak again ● 3GS old-bootrom owners can now create custom IPSWs without blobs ● ultrasn0w compatability update (i.e. same baseband requirements) for 5.0.1 will be available on Cydia Monday ● support for newer 8GB iPhone4 (which until now had problems with "Fetch blobs"). Thanks to @JKjeepnJeff for loaning us one of these newer i4 units for testing! ● allows Windows users (not just OS X users) to use the "Custom" button to create IPSWs without baseband updates ● accommodates APTickets in 5.x (until next Apple countermove). APTickets are crypto-verified before submitting to Cydia, just like the main blobs. Cydia server support for sending back the APTickets is upcoming. For now, use stitched IPSWs for 5.x. Due to APTickets, stitched 5.x IPSWs now require user to start in "Pwned DFU" mode ● Support added for stitching 4.x blobs to iPad2-GSM IPSWs. Similar to @notcom's TinyCFW but doesn't require lots of RAM or a TSS-assisted restore. Won't work for iPad2 5.x blobs (or iPhone4S at all) until a bootrom-level exploit is out ● top line now shows whether (and where) a redsn0w update is available, or if the version being run is the latest. Uses DNS TXT record to alleviate any concerns about snooping ● no 5.1 beta support at this time (major apps like Cydia are not yet compatible) ● @pod2g has been doing a great job porting his 5.x untether check his blog for updates! ● Owners of newer 3GS iPhones must not flash the iPad baseband. The iPad baseband will not work on 3GS iPhones built later than 2011 week 35.
You can download the new version of RedSn0w from here.
You can find our tutorials on how to jailbreak iOS 5 below; however, we recommend that you wait for pod2g's upcoming untethered jailbreak unless you need to immediately jailbreak iOS 5.0.1. ● iPhone 4 (Mac, Windows) ● iPhone 3GS (Mac, Windows) ● iPhone - No Baseband Update (Mac) ● iPod Touch 4G (Mac, Windows) ● iPod Touch 3G (Mac, Windows) ● iPad 1 (Mac, Windows)
You can find instructions on saving your SHSH blobs to Cydia via RedSn0w below: ● iPhone (Mac, Windows) ● iPad (Mac, Windows) ● iPod Touch (Mac, Windows)

Stitching Ipad 2 GSM does not work. Redsn0w crashed when you open the shsh blobs before stitch and when you finally get it to work and put your ipad 2 in dfu mode to downgrade to 4.3.3 itunes gives error 2005, then 3108 without dfu. these guys need to test there stuff before release. they make us look like fools.
Can I use stiched ipsw with iphones? Does it preserve the baseband? I mean if I select a stock ipsw and use the stich function on redan0w will the resultimg ipsw preserve my baseband once installed?
Are you sure about " allows Windows users (not just OS X users) to use the "Custom" button to create IPSWs without baseband updates"?
When I click it, it tells me "not available for Windows users."
They've updated post:
allows Windows users (not just OS X users) to use the Custom button to create IPSWs without baseband updates. (Update: please wait for 0.9.9b9b for this!)
Tehtered - plaaaah. This is record breaking waiting time for the untethered jailbreak ever in history of iPhone OS and iOS. Whats happening Dev-team? Have you guys been retired and doing this slowly or have you just given up? Very worried here - i would have been switched to other platform if there wasn't Jailbreak long time ago... the only thing keeping me with iOS is really JB-community. Wake up guys, please or gotta start thinking of alternatives. Nokia Winphone would be radical but it would be nice change....
Or maybe iOS-hackers got too much donations and now they are "hacking" iOS in their sun beds in Hawaii or something... would explain why thing have gotten this slow :D
Quote: " i bet they doing better than both of us just with the donation-flow that flies in. "
You guess, you think, speculate, wonder, but no proof. How much have you donated to the cause other than bandwidth wasting posts?
Noman: I totally agree with you... They are surely not doing it for free, and only naive thinking persons like dt and human think they do. This in fact is a record breaking waiting time for a jailbreak and one of the primary reasons of not being able to jailbreak the device is because of two of the best ios hackers leaving the scene (@Comex & Geohotz) So, unless we the community find someone as talented as those who left it will be very difficult for us to Find Jailbreaks as quickly as before.
In regards to working for free, you can clearly see @comex interview before going to work for apple where he states that just with Jailbreakme exploit he earned in donations more than US$55,000.
1 day after pod2g announcing that he cannot work on a jailbreak for a A5 device he got so many donations that he were able to buy the 4S and the ipad 2 in just 1 day. He said that himself in his post.
So everyone who says its for free please......
BTW. Would not be surprised if pod2g is just delaying release to pump as much donations as possible. After the release his blogs traffic will drop drastically.... not claiming him. I would wait until 5.1 release.... :)
