Kariem McFarlin, an Alameda resident, was sentenced to seven years in state prison for burglarizing several homes included the home of the late Apple co-founder Steve Jobs, reports InsideBayArea.com.

McFarlin, 35, pleaded no contest Nov. 21 to eight felony counts of residential burglary and one felony count of selling stolen property. The Alameda resident could have faced up to 16 years and four months, but Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Thang Nguyen Barrett agreed to cap his maximum sentence at seven years and eight months in exchange for the plea. McFarlin could end up serving just half of his seven-year sentence, said Deputy District Attorney Thomas Flattery. Every day he serves will count as two as long as his behavior is good.

On July 1, 2012 McFarlin crept into the garage of Steve Jobs' home on Waverley Street in Palo Alto. He found a set a keys and stole numerous items from the residence including $60,000 worth of Tiffany & Co jewelry, Steve Jobs' drivers license, and several Apple gadgets. Jobs had passed away nine months earlier.

McFarlin was caught when he plugged his Apple devices into a computer to use with his iTunes account. He was arrested on August 2nd.

Prosecutors determined that McFarlin was responsible for seven other robberies in the area.

Seven years is perfectly reasonable for theft from multiple homes, whether it was Steve Jobs or not. The part I love is the fact that Apple technology busted this fool. The part that saddens me is every day of good behavior counts as two… Every day served should as one day...
