A Look at the 3D Dynamic Perspective and Firefly Features on the Amazon Fire Phone [Video]

Posted June 19, 2014 at 7:34pm by iClarified
Amazon has posted a video that offers a look at the 3D Dynamic Perspective and Firefly features of its new Fire phone.

Dynamic Perspective uses four ultra-low power specialized cameras and four infrared LEDs built into the front face of Fire, a dedicated custom processor, real-time computer vision algorithms, and a new high-performing and power-efficient graphics rendering engine. It allows for one-handed gestures such as auto-scroll, tilt, swivel, and peek; as well as, immersive apps and games.

Firefly combines Amazon’s deep catalog of physical and digital content with multiple image, text and audio recognition technologies to quickly identify web and email addresses, phone numbers, QR and bar codes, plus over 100 million items, including movies, TV episodes, songs, and products. You can press and hold a dedicated Firefly button to discover and take action on items quickly.

More details on the phone can be found here. You can pre-order it here.

Take a look at the video below to see the features in action...

Doesn't seem to be anything new in functionality. More an attempt to reintroduce and combine excisting ideas. The innovative part is the special hardware that is allocated to support the new features. That may make the difference between this and failed attempts in the past. A note on the autoscroll. I don't see how this will work. I know that I'm never completely still when reading stuff on my phone. Allways moving in my seat, or shifting my balance while standing. Will that fire off false autoscrolls?

Why is apple coming out with ios8? 8 versions of software updates and they still can't get it right? I thought apple was about getting things right and perfection? 8 updates later and there are still improvements to make to their software...... That's why jail breaking is still alive.... Customizing!

This phone will see the same fate as the "Facebook phone".. Same premise, its a phone that is exclusive to certain tasks and the BIG features are those that would have been great in high school... But I'm a big boy now in a big boys world and have a big boy job... I'm sorry, I need a big boy phone. Still.......#AppleNation

Yeah, spamazons os. I once used, let's just say it takes lots of scrolling to find what you're looking for, but they don't have a chance nowadays. When iOS 8 comes out it will be impossible to start from there on. First smartphone but also kind of ugly and a copy, besides what apps do they have for business? You have a point there.

Amazon definitely was trying to appeal to the constant reader, movie watcher, music listener, shopper, restaurant goer and etc. The entire phone is based on entertainment. However there is no doubt that this phone will be extremely limited as far as productivity.

What about everything else? Security, apps, other features compared to iOS 8?

That's what I meant, how SECURE is the os, and it's obvious like all compared to iOS.
