I didn't capture any details before I jb'd, Am I stuffed? Or will I be fine? Can I capture them whilst its jailbroken?
Dan - September 10, 2009 at 7:51pm
I have a 16gb 3GS currently running 3.0.1. I have tried this process many times (with the phone plugged in normal, in recovery mode, in DFU mode) and cannot get itunes to load the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw firmware to my phone. Every time it just says that my device is not eligible for this firmware. What can I do? Is there a way of blocking itunes from checking eligibility and just installing? Or is there an app I can install on the phone to fetch the iBEC and iBSS straight out?
qblake - November 28, 2009 at 7:53pm
I'm not sure if this will work, but it's worth a try and doesn't require any restoring. Download the firmware, then make a copy and change the file extension from .ipsw to .zip, unzip it, go to Firmware/dfu and there you go! The iBEC and iBSS are there!
Joe - August 13, 2009 at 1:31pm
Hello I am only getting the iBEC.n88ap.RELEASE.dfu one and no IBSS. I have tried the grabber and manually, but cant find that file. I have the 3GS with 3.0.1 firmware. Can any one advise me? Thank you
Joe - August 13, 2009 at 1:35pm
I forgot to mention I am running Windows XP and itunes , Please help before I kick this phone at a wall. :P
nick - September 13, 2009 at 12:20pm
Try upgrading your itunes to 9.0
Rand - August 4, 2009 at 2:53pm
Thanks. Got the ibes but could not get the ibss...and currently give up. Had problems getting into the dfu mode (or out of it for that matter)....then when itunes finally worked out it forced me to update to 3.0.1....(trial 1) and then restored with shift restore to 3.0 version...both times grabbed the temp file...both times it showed up as ibec... not the ibss file....so i hope the ibec file is enough as I give up...for now!

i just bought a new iphone 3gs today and tried this and i think i just 'bricked' my iphone. i'm not able to restore it using the apple provided update, nor can i restore it using the firmware provided at the link from iclarified. i don't know if this has happened to anybody else but if anyone can help i'd really appreciate it. i keep getting the following error: the iphone "iphone" could not be restored. an unknown error occurred (14). i'm using windows 7 but tried restoring it on two other computers; one running windows vista & the other running windows xp. i've been searching online for a the last few hours with no luck! one person said, their iphone started working the next morning when they tried to restore it so i'm kinda hoping i end up in the same situation but if not i'm screwed. or well i guess ill have to take it to the apple store.

I just tried the initial restore on and I kept getting the same error you did. I installed 8.2.1 and it has worked fine so far... I'm not out of the woods yet though. I think I forgot the password to my backup!
Gal - July 18, 2009 at 5:09pm
Hello, can i preform this actions with itunes 8.2.1? please advice Thx
Kacy - December 2, 2011 at 1:53pm
Normally I'm agansit killing but this article slaughtered my ignorance.
brandon - July 15, 2009 at 10:14pm
Does someone know if I need to re-capture these files each time I restore? Or does the "signature" in these files NOT change with each restore??? Thanks for the help
daniel - August 4, 2009 at 11:12am
hey @ brandon, each time apple will send u a different certificate but it is custom to your iphone. even though there will be differences in the certs apple sends you, if you save any of them then they will work no probs because they are officially signed. and after that there is no more validation.
smack - July 12, 2009 at 10:35pm
C:\Users\All Users\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Temporary Files\Firmware\dfu On Vista this is where i found my iBSS file as well. Even using the Grabber program it just does not show up tin the %temp% directory.

Jesse Dukes - August 27, 2009 at 8:05pm
Thanks for the note, that's exactly what I was looking for. In XP the directory to find BOTH files is C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Temporary Files\Firmware\dfu I assume that they are there while doing the restore in DFU mode.
dddccc - July 11, 2009 at 8:43pm
in my case I grabbed both files, BUT there were no questions reg. restoring "as a new phone" or "restore from backup...". iTunes asks me for the personalö information to complete the account activation. is it jusual? Do I need to do it? tx
Yousif - July 11, 2009 at 12:04pm
Do I need to do this if my iPhone 3GS is factory unlocked? Is it important for the unlock or the jellbreak?
dani - July 10, 2009 at 4:18am
3rd try to grab the files was the lucky one :). ieee! you only have like 1-2 seconds to copy them
Chad - July 9, 2009 at 1:22pm
Ok people...if you want your IBEC and IBSS files this is the easiest solution I have found! Go to this link "http://difrnt.com/blog/?p=25" and download IBEC IBSS Grabber...unzip it and read the .txt file. You will run the program, specify a file location, click "start watching" and then put your 3GS into DFU mode and restore....VOILA! Works perfectly and no stress trying to catch the IBSS file that everyone is missing. I did this in VISTA.
Miljbee - July 10, 2009 at 8:37am
Yes, I agree, really easiest, and you only need the dfu part, not the first one. You will get the two files from dfu mode. Tested on W7 64 FR

great job man thx, works fine , but one question i got 3 folders .tmp did u ? witch are the 2 good cerificates? is there a way to know? thx
Chad - July 11, 2009 at 10:40am
Yes...I got 3 also....the one u want is the first folder...the one that has both the IBEC and IBSS files. The second folder will only have IBEC and the third folder won't even have a DFU subfolder. Hope this helps.
lunais - July 8, 2009 at 11:11pm
This is BS, even in DFU mode the first temp folder that appears either cant be copied because the file is in use by another program, or contains the iBec file
lunais - July 8, 2009 at 11:43pm
After hours and hours of restoring, I finally got BOTH files, not just IBEC

Ok, here what worked for me because I too want to capture these files so future jailbreaks from The Dev Team are easy. Watch the video by TheVincentLee where he goes through the whole process including putting your phone into FDU http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34FA6M-hhQ0 Use dirfnt's tool to capture/copy the folders for you and after the restore, search for. dfu http://difrnt.com/blog/?p=25 I tried the manual method a few times and kept missting the iBSS file too
Ulrik - July 8, 2009 at 9:25pm
Good advice! The youtube video link is broken, but it is fairly easy to get into DFU mode. The iBEC & iBSS grabber tool is excellent though - saves you from a bit of a hassle :)
Adria Richards
Adria Richards - July 8, 2009 at 11:32pm
OMG! They suspended VincentLee's YouTube account! I wonder if it was because of the Apple Jailbreak videos?
kenneth - July 7, 2009 at 8:09pm
TO EVERYONE WHO IS ONLY ABLE TO GET THE IBEC FILE: I had one of those "doh" hit my hand on my head moments: make sure you are in complete DFU mode. This is different from the soft DFU mode. Watch this clip and you will be on your way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34FA6M-hhQ0 (took me 4 times to finally realize this!)
ace731 - July 7, 2009 at 10:27pm
ok i just got a replacement 3GS and i was able to get teh iBSS file with the old phone i had, but doing the same method i am unable to get the iBSS file. the iBEC file shows up but not the iBSS. any ideas?
PeterLeshaw - July 8, 2009 at 7:30pm
The link to the youtube file that shows how to put th iPhone in complete DFU mode has been taken down. Anyone know where we can find new directions to put the iphone in complete DFU mode to get the iBSS files?
KennethToronto - July 8, 2009 at 7:38pm
Instructions for putting the iphone into complete DFU: 1) Iphone should be on and plugged in to itunes 2) press and hold power and home keys for ten seconds (actually hold it for ten seconds) 3) let go of power key but keep home key pressed 4) let go of home key when itunes reports that your phone is connected in recovery mode
spoonyg - July 12, 2009 at 11:12pm
bump on this as it turned out to be my problem. I could never get the iBSS file, even after using the grabber tool, until i realized that I wasn't in complete DFU mode. Once i was in complete DFU mode (like Kenneth describes), it worked like a charm and i got both files.
qzack - July 7, 2009 at 6:19pm
I cant get the IBSS file... i ran though the process three times now and I keep getting the IBEC only.. any ideas??
Mira3GS - July 6, 2009 at 3:48pm
I only get files that say Per14.tmp or Per15.tmp. The one I need won't show up. Suggestions?
bijibijmak - July 5, 2009 at 12:10pm
Hi. I can't get to dawnload the update at step two. Maybe because of the internet censorship in Iran. It downloads only 70 Mb and then stalls. Could anyone please give me another link to this download, probably a torrent. Thanx.
Yousif - July 11, 2009 at 12:00pm
use a good download accelerator, or just use Firefox to download the link
Bob - July 4, 2009 at 12:03am
Just did mine got both files and new certification, waiting on dev team. They will come through soon. I hope the jailbreak isn't as much hassle as retrieving these files.

I can't even FIND the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file! I DLed the .zip from the link provided but when I extract it that file isn't anywhere in there. Just a bunch of DMG files then a few folders and a bunch of IMG3 files, but I've searched everywhere and can't find the restore.ipsw that has it's own icon and is a filetype "apple software" something. What gives?
sy - July 3, 2009 at 10:18pm
The link is in step 2 to download the file, it isnt a zip so you don't need to extract it.
qblake - July 4, 2009 at 9:24am
Rename Phone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.zip to Phone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw

I'm on a PC using IE8 as a browser, it automatically DLs as a zip
Lennon - July 4, 2009 at 3:34pm
rename .zip to .ipsw
azzz88 - July 9, 2009 at 1:50am
I've got the same problem, i changed the name as suggested but still cannot find the file
Justin - July 19, 2009 at 3:17pm
For me it downloads as .ipsw.zip - showing file extensions and *removing* the .zip and *leaving* .ipsw seemed to fix it for me. It now has an icon of a computer with musical notes rather than a folder icon.
sy - July 3, 2009 at 10:02pm
I don't get the option to browse to the iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw file, My itunes says restore and update instead of just restore does that mean it will update the iphone to 3.0.1? Anyone else having this problem?
sy - July 3, 2009 at 10:15pm
My bad you need to press shift when you hit the restore button.
abayarde - July 3, 2009 at 2:08pm
Thanks TheVicentLee! FYI got both files on Windows 7 Build 7264 following a Windows Vista tutorial...
Agent21 - July 3, 2009 at 7:34pm
OK, so maybe I'm just a moron, but when I DL the firmware file I can't, for the life of me, find the file on the .zip that is the actual restore file. There are a ton of other files (including the two we supposedly need, the iBEC and iBSS ones), but there isn't one, ANYWHERE, that says iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore. The only thing named that is the .zip file, and that isn't what all the screenshots show, they show and ibsw (or something like that) fle extension after the name????????
Franck0707 - July 3, 2009 at 12:26pm
HI all, I have a strange problem when using the tutorial. The folders we must paste in the folder called Pwnage, has only one file in the folder "dfu". It's the iBEC... Thanks for help :)
Adil - July 4, 2009 at 3:39pm
Same problem, only have the ibec file.
brikz - July 4, 2009 at 5:25pm
u probably aren't in DFU mode but restore mode. Also, make sure you copy every new file that pops up in the temp folder. I sometimes get 3 different ones that pop up and sometimes they are both in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd. Check all dfu folders or each folder you copy.
Bill - July 3, 2009 at 4:59am
Please help. Every time I download the firmware. It's a zip file I extract to me new folder and when try restore it says can find folder. There's no exe file ?
diedaaf - July 3, 2009 at 7:04am
Just rename the zipfile to ipsw
jj - July 3, 2009 at 12:38am
it's asking me to do a iPhone Carrier Update after the restore. is it safe to do the update?
LarryLP - July 3, 2009 at 12:37am
Wow you need to be very quick on Vista, I just could not get the IBSS. The IBEC was a piece of cake. I had to use the grabber http://difrnt.com/blog/?p=25 to get the IBSS
Chibs - July 4, 2009 at 10:17am
That program was just what I needed!
Lennon - July 4, 2009 at 4:23pm
goddamn bro exactly what i needed for the ibss you rock!
dizack - July 5, 2009 at 5:16pm
Thanks for the tip. I used the tool and it grabbed it fast.. Thanks again,
pancholelo - July 2, 2009 at 10:28pm
So, I used the ECID to generate the unique certificate and also obtained the signed iBEC and iBSS files. They are about 103kb correct? Anything else I need to do so far? Thanks for your help.
Jose - July 2, 2009 at 9:01pm
Mine is 104 K !!
jj - July 2, 2009 at 9:53pm
mine is size 102 KB (104,793 bytes) and size on disk 104 KB (106,496 bytes)
Jose - July 2, 2009 at 8:58pm
I try this using my PC running Vista but not good. . . I saw like 4 folder, they look the same just change the number. Then I switch to my wife mac and it was a lot easier, in a couple of seconds both file where there in the desktop folder. If you have access to a mac try the updated way . . . much easier!!!
MeTheOrion - July 2, 2009 at 8:31pm
Can anyone confirm the file size - is it 103kb for the 2 files?
pancholelo - July 2, 2009 at 8:38pm
Yes...both mine are 103kb
MeTheOrion - July 2, 2009 at 8:49pm
Well - congratulations for a job well done to me then :))
ddgrl - July 2, 2009 at 8:25pm
If I do this process will it erase all the data on my iPhone like it says on the tutorial? I've never done this before. Please help
Izzyreb02 - July 2, 2009 at 7:36pm
For Those that couldnt get the iBSS, Go here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=34FA6M-hhQ0 They show you how you how to do the DFU mode (where the phone is like in a blank screen when Itunes say its in restore mode) as it meant to be. If you see it wants to be connected to Itunes, then you done it wrong on doing the Full DFU mode
Klaus - July 2, 2009 at 6:53pm
Iif this is a silly question, pleas excuse me. Is the file iPhone2,1_3.0_7A341_Restore.ipsw working for all iphone 3gs, e.g. the german ones? Or is it only for the english version of iphone? Thanks in advance.
brikz - July 2, 2009 at 5:04pm
Hey Guys, I keep getting a "Iphone can't be restored with this file bc it is not compatible" error. Anyone have this? Why am i getting this? What should i do?
brikz - July 2, 2009 at 5:48pm
Alright i was able to Dfu Restore it, but with the grabber i got 3 files--Per1F (1-3) with inside being-----a firmware folder which has flash and dfu folders then in the dfu it has the ibec file in 1 and 2 but in Per1F3 there is only flash folder and no dfu folder is this where the ibss number would have been if it hadn't crashed or am i missing something else? Thanks,
brikz - July 2, 2009 at 5:59pm
Hi, Me again, ok it looks like the 2nd time here worked...i just watched the temp folder and copied the folder (this time it came up Per1FB and in the firmware dfu folder both the ibec and ibss files are in there. at 103 kb a piece. I also did the purplra1n trick as well for the EDIC. Do we need all 3 of these? Or can we just choose which one to do?
CesOne - July 2, 2009 at 4:55pm
iBEC and iBSS Grabber Is it real...???? Becuase I couldn't grad that folder in time and i tried 6 times..... So I downloaded the grabber program and now I have the files.... But I'm just scared that they're fake files..... Ya Know..... Can Someone thats creditable verify ? thanks
jj - July 2, 2009 at 9:50pm
just open cmd and run the following (no need any problem) explorer %APPDATA% && FOR /L %A in (1,1,1000000) DO FOR /D %A in (%TEMP%\Per*.tmp) DO Ping >NUL: && xcopy /Y /I /E %A %APPDATA%\3GS-certs
JJ - July 2, 2009 at 4:26pm
finally got it working!! I wasn't putting my phone correctly into DFU mode (the screen has to be BLACK b4 starting the restore process). Seems that the 2 files in %temp% folder are different from the 2 files in iPhone Temporary Files folder, so use only the 2 files from %temp% folder. 1 try in DFU mode pulled the 2 files. Thanks!
JJ - July 2, 2009 at 4:43pm
if you look under AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes\iPhone Updater Logs the iPhoneUpdater log it will show "DFU Device" ; the tss_add_entry: iBSS & tss_add_entry: iBEC . If you're not in DFU mode, you will only see "Recovery Mode Device" ; the tss_add_entry: iBEC entry.
iphoner - July 2, 2009 at 2:31pm
So are these files just an extraction of files from the .IPSW file? or are the somewhat customized to our individual device? If you rename the .IPSW as a .ZIP file and the drill into the /FIRMWARE/dfu folder the same files exist there. Can we use these files or are they different then whats generated during the restore?
mioux - July 2, 2009 at 1:55pm
It seems that when you are restoring the iPhone in DFU, the 2 files are in the temp folder. I checked my both iBEC files with md5, they have the same hash, I hope they are identical :D (PS : No problem to get the files with this method...)
akai - July 2, 2009 at 2:05pm
md5 is different on mine. On the iBEC file anyway. I still havent even SEEN the iBSS file.
D3lta - July 2, 2009 at 12:53pm
Where does the iBEC/iBSS program save the folders? It found and saved two folders, but crashed right away. Did it crash before it saved them? Please help.
